Oh, so not sneering at Brouwer's contract, just that the Flames had to sign Brouwer to that contract. Oooooookaaaaaay. You're not denying you sneered at Gaudreau's grit, at least.

Uh, as a Jets fan I would 100% trade Laine for Gaudreau. Why the hell would Calgary even consider that? Do I think Laine could be special? yes. He could even turn into a Gaudreau!
(in terms of production, they're obviously very different players)

Couldn't disagree more. Gaudreau hasn't even come close to reaching his potential. Remember this kid has taken massive steps every year since he was drafted.
How does being the best player on team North America make you think he has peaked?

Definitely wouldn't trade Gaudreau for Laine.. Think you are in the minority on that one Theo.

I never said what I would do. My initial comment was what I thought the Jets would do in that situation

Only reason, is if the agent came to the Flames and requested a trade....
Hopefully that does not occur and they find a way to get this done...
Flames can't afford the distraction when the season starts.

Friedman is saying that the ask for Trouba is "enormous".
Bigger than anything he has heard before if i heard him correctly.
Makes sense if your the Jets, but not if you are the buyer.

That's great and all for the Jets but we had the Jones for Johansen trade not too long ago. Seems like the perfect comp.

Laine for Gaudreau doesn't seem to make sense for either team. Gaudreau is a known commodity, while Laine is unknown. Laine might be the better player down the road, but that's the risk with prospects.
At best it would be seen as a lateral move, especially considering it's a wing for wing trade. At least in the Johansen/Jones both teams were addressing an area of need.

Winnipeg has one RFA holdout there is no way they trade their 2nd overall pick for another. The Flames are serious about pushing for a playoff spot this year and there is no way they trade their superstar winger for a prospect that hasn't played in the NHL yet.
As for Trouba he likely is pushing to go to the States. If not I could see the Oilers, Leafs, and Habs all with a ton of interest. Deals could be built around Nurse, Gardiner, or Beaulieu

in fairness Jones >> Trouba and WPG is looking for a LD of similar vintage not a C.
So not comparable.

Presumably the Jets don't make that trade without a lot of confidence about getting Johnny signed quickly.
