Based on his reaction it doesn't sound like there will be any issue.

I wonder why he appeared less content while he was the Canucks' property though.

I mean I wouldn't be thrilled either cause it's Vancouver but besides the obvious..

Some people have speculated it's because the Canucks already have Hughes. Less room for another high-octane offensive D on that roster. In Calgary, there's nobody similar ahead of him on the depth chart.

I get Doughty vibes for some reason.
Regardless I'm happy because it's another offensive minded D!

Yeah, a couple ways to maybe interpret that...

1) he or his camp may have asked for a trade or communicated that they would be open to it, or
2) the Canucks may have communicated to his camp that there is interest and they may include him in a trade (just a head's up)

IMO, the 2nd scenario is more likely. And his comment about thinking about the idea of it, and it might be cool... kind of sounds like it was suggested by someone else and he was just getting his head around it - trying it on for size, so to speak.

Hard to tell of course. But the only thing that matters to me is that he is keen on the Flames organization (not saying he is, just hoping that he is)

I laugh at those who suggest he'll be a PP specialist, 3rd pairing D. It will take him a few years to stew in the NHL, but this is a top-pairing minute muncher all-day long.

Alex Goligoski? Kiss my a**

Hey man, it's better to under-project than over-project.

Set me up to be pleasantly surprised than dissapointed.

What's funnier is OOT analysts saying the Canucks got better/stronger and awarding them As on the trade. Clearly they haven't watched a lick of present day Lindholm to see that his line for most of the season was the weakest on the Flames (a mid, non-playoff team) and his metrics were a far cry from years past, with 1 more goal than Kuzmenko playing 5 more minutes per game.

But yes, he will magically snap back to prime form the moment he steps on the ice for Vancouver.

Marek was making stupid unintelligible noises on his show calling the Canucks "scary now"

Yeah, again, you even watched Lindholm lately? And this is supposed to be a hockey guy.

Meanwhile Flames fans should temper expectations greatly on all pieces acquired. Right... At least the Flames will own those pieces still in a few months.

It's not a matter of "if" he'll win the Norris.

It's "when?" and "how many?"

That's the key, of course.

Lindholm probably will benefit somewhat from a reset. He obviously wasn't a good match with any of the players that were tried on his line this year. It looked like Huberdeau's fault at first, but Huberdeau + Sharangovich seems like a cromulent duo. The Canucks can have the problem of trying Lindholm all over the lineup until he clicks with someone. Maybe they'll succeed.

But come July 1, Lindholm will either have left for greener pa$ture$, or the Canucks will have overpaid to keep him. Meanwhile, the Flames will have a nice little pile of assets for the future.

He's playing in the OHL, though. That's a pretty good indicator at the outset that he is probably not an especially high flight risk. But, more importantly, the rules governing CHL players don't require them to abandon their Junior teams upon signing NHL contracts like in the NCAA, so the situation is also totally different than for virtually every American player in recent memory who has exercised his UFA rights to sign their ELC with a different team.

I get what you're saying, but I hope not. Doughty's a whiny little female canine.

If he can be a Top 4 player for the Flames with offensive upside without being a disaster in his own size, that will be a win for Calgary.

I think the Fox or Doughty comparisons are certainly reaching at this point.

I'm just not that anti-Lindholm.

He had a miserable season and it certainly looks like he really needs to play with good players to generate offence, but he's a solid 200 foot player.

I just think the uncertainty messed him up. Some players it feeds career years but he looks to be the opposite.

I guess if you're Vancouver you hope he knows he's there for the rest of the year and can relax a bit. If he's still worried about producing for his next contract he may continue to spiral.

But I like Linholm as a player.

Wonder if his confidence was fractured a bit too.

Different management but this was a team that was pretty much willing to offer all of Gaudreau, Tkachuk, and Huberdeau $10.5M with no questions asked over the last 18 months.

Then when he came up for renewal it appears like Flames held pretty firm at $8.5M and weren't even really willing to try to negotiate above that, and once he didn't accept were ready to just move on from him.

Hurt feelings and all that jazz for Lindholm probably for sure.

I wonder if Hendrix Hanes, a new hire in video/data/analytics for the Flames was pushing for the Flames to acquire Hunter.

When I heard the points he was putting up I expected the kid to be like 5’8. 6’ and hockey sense, the sky is the limit. Low floor but sky high ceiling, and I think that is what we all are asking for, swing for the fences.
