Speaking of that Gaudreau salary poll, did he-who-shall-not-be-named just stop posting after that thread? Genuinely curious... haven't seen him post at all since that time.

He is In The Sin Bin. Kind of funny was looking at his posting history because of this and the last thing he posted was a "Could Johnson become starter by end of the season?" thread where he got ripped to shreds for suggesting it as a Troll and how it was ridiculous to think Elliott would not turn it around. Kind of funny how that all looks in retrospect at this point of the season.
And don't take this as me saying he isn't a troll, just thought it was kinda funny how things have changed
The draft is a lot like the Hunger Games for top hockey prospects. Every prospect crosses their fingers that when the Oilers go up to the podium that their name is not called. We even got reaffirmation when Al MacInnis texted his buddy Keith Tkachuk saying "you're lucky" after the Oilers and Canucks both passed on his son. Don't forget the look on McDavid's face after the Oilers won the draft lottery. No kid wants that team calling their name.
I remember the nice pre-draft story about Nurse's uncle Donovan McNabb giving him career advice and it's a shame for Darnell and his family that his name was called by the Oilers.

I think that players should be given the option when they're drafted to the Oilers. Kind of like the processing area for convicts in Escape from New York where they were given the choice of going into New York, or summery execution.
Conner McDavid you've been sentenced to at least 7 years in Edmonton. You can choose to play for the Oilers or summery execution, what do you choose?

lol at the Oilers media talking about picking up deadline rentals. We all know the Oilers will continue to plummet down the standings and will once again be sellers.

Despite the odd win, the Oilers have been trending snake-sideways since the start of November.
The only things really keeping them afloat are loser points and a mediocre first 2 months from most of the western conference, but particularly the division. I think SJ and ANA are gonna start to pull away quickly here. And I straight up think Calgary has looked better than Edmonton for a couple weeks now having watched a decent amount of both teams and they're going into a much easier stretch of schedule where if they play half as good as they have, they're probably going to take more games than not.
If LA does their thing and follows suit with ANA and SJ, then I see the Oil firmly in the wildcard race in a month. Calgary could very well be too, but I think they've got a better shot at staying in the top 3 than the Oil because of the aforementioned reasons.
I think both Alberta teams are very fortunate though that the standings in the west are starting to take a turn to being like last year. If Dallas and Winnipeg keep playing .450-.500 hockey and don't make a surge in short order then we could be looking at basically 9 teams competing for 8 spots like last spring, giving both teams a better than normal shot at making the dance.
