Yeah that's fair but play around with those numbers how you want. Each thousand dollar increase cost 50 cents per hour.

I think the general statement that Uber drivers earn more than minimum wage is a reasonable one.

So for Detroit then, we can probably safely knock a good $1.50-$2.50/hr off those figures over the past year, depending on where gas prices were at.

Well not really as they acounted for 6k instead of 3k for costs so some of the additional cost you are adding there has already been accounted for.

Province passed new rules for ride sharing insurance that come into effect tonight, as far as I'm aware they will be following Edmontons rules.

Tappcar is a better alternative for drivers, works the same as uber only they are insured and go through proper background checks

The app is available now

More expensive for the driver, more expensive for the rider (I've heard and read plenty of stories where the cost is at least 20% higher, and upwards of 50%. My personal experience tells me about 30% higher on average).

No thanks. Tappcar sucks. It's a marginally better cab company, it's not Uber.

Just to echo others, TappCar is a joke. Terrible app (even yellow taxi is better), and there's never a car nearby. Do not use.

Ethics be damned, Uber is a useful service and I want it as an option in this city.

Insurance costs money, water is wet.

The number of cars is bound to increase as the company grows, it is a brand new company and is doing quite well in Edmonton.

I prefer it's service over regular cabs when drivers are available, in my experience the price has always been very comparable to regular cabs, and in some cases noticeably cheaper, it has never been 20% more in my experience but that is just my experience with them. They from speaking to the drivers, they say it is much more profitable than regular cab companies when they are busy, and they receive benefits, pension and aren't stuck with the $2000 deductible on their vehicles which more than one driver claimed the cab companies put on their drivers' insurance policies.

Question, if in your personal experience the average cost was 30% higher, why did/would you continue using the service long enough to have enough data to base that average on?

Why does anyone use any cab company? To get somewhere. When you're choosing between Checker, Yellow, Tappcar, the difference is negligible, so I had no problem giving Tappcar a half dozen or so tries.

Tappcar sucks the same way Yellow sucks and Checker sucks. Tappcar is a ride sharing service with the same quality and price as a taxi service.

It's not Uber. Let's not pretend it's close. Nobody is grabbing an Uber thinking "price and speed are no object to me, I just want the driver to be insured."

That option exists. It's called a Taxi.

Were you saying it was 20-50% more expensive than uber or a cab?

Isn't it ironic that the founder of Uber is from Calgary originally?

haha yeah, one of them. He's actually a friend of mine. That link (and intense frustration at Calgary taxis) are the only reasons I follow Uber so closely.

I don't think I would use their services very often, but we deserve better options.
