There is no fire there. If the guys hand hurts after 1 fight he needs to toughen up his knuckles. The flames should have something in the dressing room for guys to toughen their knuckles. Look at Ferland's hand. His middle knuckle is HUGE. That's a guy who has done some work on toughening up his hands.

You do know Brouwer suffered a broken hand this season, right?

What was his excuse in the first 2 games of the season against Edmonton and Lucic, Kassian, Maroon, and Nurse?

Post injury, didn't stop him from fighting a bad fighter in Brayden McNabb.

Maybe he's just a spot picker?

First two games? So he was just supposed to fight for no real reason? Anyway, someone made a crack about toughening up his hand. I was responding to that.
It's possible he re-injured his hand in that one fight as well. Who knows?

Brouwer's lack of fights doesn't bother me much. He wasn't brought in as a fighter. Lack of hits and gritty play is a bigger issue.

i think the biggest issue is his uselessness at playing the game. he can't make a play to save his life. he floats around and skates like he's in molasses. can't push play away from the defensive zone due to a complete lack of any puck skills or hockey intelligence. can't receive passes or keep plays alive in the offensive zone, can't do #### in the neutral zone. doesn't even block shots despite leading the team (except, of course, for bartkowski) in terms of giving up the most shots against per minute played.

his contract might be more palatable if he were hitting and 'being gritty,' but it's still not a cap usage you want to see on a contending team.

Brouwer is garbage. There is nothing wrong with his hand and even if there was he is still bringing nothing at all. He is a turnover machine, he doesn't win board battles, he doesn't stick up for his teammates. After last night they need to strip him of that A, actually it should have been done months ago. We can only hope LV picks him up because all I am seeing from Brouwer is a guy who caught fire last year in the post season and turned that into a nice payday and has mailed it in.

His play last night and his reaction to Johnny getting slashed ("its part of the game, I do it too") is unacceptable. If he keeps this up, I'd be open to sitting him in round 1 in favour of Hathaway or Bollig if we play the Ducks

Bollig?? Lets not pretend that icing a team full of goons is the answer here.

Guys let's not discount those sweet sweet intangibles he brings such as "leadership."

Wasn't he planning on retiring in the Calgary area prior to signing the contract?

Maybe he's gone into a retirement early mentally.

At this point does Vegas go near Brouwer in expansion draft?

I didn't mind the signing of Brouwer - i thought it was a touch high per year (250K-500K) and probably a year too long...

but believed that he would bring some needed grit and leadership to a roster that was very thin on RW...especially with how well he performed in the playoffs last year...

Sadly he has been very disappointing... as shown by virtually every quantifiable metric

This is why you exposed him to the expansion draft... I mean unless McPhee and Brouwer were drinking buddies, i'd find it hard to believe he'd be picked up...

While injury may be the case, then they should have sat him out until he was healthy... or benched him flat out to send a message.

i think he ought to sit out until the playoffs - if he's injured, this will give him a bit of time to heal up... if he's just playing poorly, well, a benching might be the most constructive move forward

It's pretty sad that Brouwer's best qualities are "intangibles" and "becomes a beast around playoffs", both things that we've never seen this year.

I had incredibly low expectations for Brouwer coming into this season.
He has failed miserably to meet even those, and in spectacular fashion.

If Treliving protects Brouwer in the expansion draft he should be fired immediately

Brouwer played about to expectations until he got hurt. Then he played terribly for a while after his injury and has picked it up lately.

He is a 3rd line RW. He comes in as the 229th best forward in terms of points.

1-90 = 1st line
91-180 = 2nd line
181-270 = 3rd line

He's a middle of the road 3rd line RW, and that's with all of his injury trouble.

I don't see what the problem is. If he produced at the same level as a year ago, he'd be ranked 140th or as a middle of the road 2nd liner.

We will see what he does next year when he's better and more adjusted to the organization. Each time he has changed teams, he accumulated less points.
