He probably said that in 2015 too.

Some things confirmed:

-Flames protecting 7F-3D-1G
-Brodie, Hamilton and Giordano being protected
-Talked about UFA defensemen Stone and Engelland...no mention of Wideman. Dennis Wideman gone confirmed?

We don't have an abundance of excess picks this year like we did in 2015

I'd be ok with trading the pick to acquire a player of Hamilton's calibre.

Ok, somebody please provide a transcript of what he said. Unfortunately these videos won't play outside of Canada. It sucks to see these videos posted and never be able to watch them.

I'm bitterly disappointed. Tree didn't say "the process" once.

There is a non-geolocked version. I watched it this morning in the UK. Not sure of the link though - I picked it up on LeBrun's twitter feed.

EDIT: Appears to be the same link as above so I guess its just blocked in the US.

What I always love about those is how you only get blocked after the ad plays.

From memory ...

Draft - can't really move up with no 2nd and 3rd. Thinking they will use the pick but you never know, things change closer to the draft

Goaltending - evaluation process time, both guys got them to the playoffs last year. Expansion makes it mucky. Have an eye to young goaltenders that need spots, don't want to block road, but don't want to push them too soon either. Will find a way when they say they are ready. Vegas will likely have more goaltenders than they intend to keep.

UFAs - Talking to Michael Stone's people now. Thought he did well to fortify the defence when he came in. Mentioned Engelland, didn't mention Wideman.

Team - rebounded from tough start. Still leaning on young players, growth from within. Team moving towards expectation of a playoff team but now a push in April as well. Then another push again. Likes group.

Tre said that Parsons has completed his junior career, which to me indicates he will be in the Ahl next year. I'm very excited to see what he can do there.

Rittich getting the shout out there too. He also mentioned overcooking of goalies, so I don't imagine Gillies will be in the NHL either (even though he said there will chances at training camp).

I think based on the fact he mentioned Vegas having many goalies and there being plenty of trade options, I imagine he'll look to the trade market for a starter, but given that he believes Elliott and Johnson saved the season, bringing those guys back will be plan B.

If I were to guess, Johnson will be back on a PTO fighting Rittich for the back-up job.

Dumb question which has probably been answered already, but if the Flames are planning to protect a goalie then they will have to decide prior to the draft correct? They have one to expose in McCollum but if the plan is to protect one, they can't really wait for Vegas.

I'm likely missing something obvious, so apologies in advance.

Also, I'm surprised his slip comment of a trade coming soon hasn't blown up. He basically said he expects a trade happening in the next few days.
