I am looking to buy a good knife to be used to cut raw meat (i.e. I want to buy a big piece of meat from Costco and cut it into steaks) and possibly to play a really competitive round of "knifey spoon".
I was looking on Google and could not quickly locate a knife shop that is either close to work (right across the street from chinook) or possiblely somewhere in the deep SE (I live in New Brighton). Google was showing a knife store in Chinook, but it is not in the mall directory (wife wants a good knife from a specialty store - I want to buy one at the Bay)
Anyone have a recommendation? Clever and witty comments are most welcome.
One of many who is too boring; thinks that there should be rules regarding grammar in custom user titles, and also makes moderators wonder if there is a charachter limit here. I mean come on- you would think that would be a limitation in the software

There is/was a knife store in the north end of the mall. Used to be around where that Starbucks booth is on the main floor. (or was it the second? In that area, anyway).
There is also a knife store right beside Chinook and Hobby West on MacLeod and 50th.
Inglewood isn't too far from Chinook and is technically the SE. And it is the home of Knifewear - which has the sexiest knives in Calgary (http://knifewear.com/). Prices range from affordable to used car. All Japanese, all deadly. It's a rather addictive place.

Ok, it's nowhere near the areas you mentioned, and it's not a witty answer at all. But were I in the market for a specific, high quality knife, my first stop would be be Knifewear in Inglewood.
They seem to have a real passion for the finer points of cutlery and seem less interested in selling lifestyle type sets ("Oh look dear! The handles match our pot holders!") than selling the sharpest, high quality pieces of forged metal known to man.
If you're wife wants a top quality knife you can at least spare yourself the time at the mall and maybe learn a thing or two.
Full disclosure, I've never shopped at knifewear, but like I said, if I were looking for a top quality blade, I'd go there first.

Wise decision, If you are buying the strip loin from costco look at aging it a little before you cut it to get some amazing steaks.
Knifeware is amazing. I had a chef friend fly over from Vancouver just to buy a knife there and I tagged along. I suddenly got very scared for my own fingers after seeing what they could do to an overripe tomato.

I'm on my phone so don't have a link handy, but I'll recommend the Porsche Design knives. Available at Lee Valley tools, in the south near Deerfoot meadows. I've owned them for two years now. Absolutely love them.
Also, make sure you don't just cut it right after buying it. If its partially frozen it's way easier to cut.
