That looks like a corpse to me with the sunken features and the way his neck is bent. The chair behind him looks more like a pillow compared to the other chairs, and the flags behind him don't look draped the way the other flags look. They look like they are laying on the floor the way they look a little wrinkled compared to the other flag.
I am probably wrong because it seems ridiculous, but the picture does seem odd to me. They said they released a video, but all I can find are stills.
Nope, I think as ridiculous as it is that is indeed a deceased person.
I'm torn, on the one hand I suspect dying in that building would cause enormous blunt force trauma type injuries, on the other if he was alive just release a video of him walking out to his car or something, I suspect therefore its a bad photoshop

They played a clip of the video on CNN, but even in the video, it didn't look like there was any movement from Sokolov. Even if he is alive in the video, there is no telling when it was taken.

Except that is a still from video. I suspect it may be him or a lookalike. Not that that's what I want but in war it is not always easy to access accurate information
The clip posted by several X (formerly#Twitter) users, including#aviation accounts, shows the Soviet-era Ilyushin Il-76 landing at Gao Airport in the West African country on September 23, overrunning the runway at high speed, before breaking into pieces and catching fire.
Quote:
An airport source and local official told the news magazine#Jeune Afrique#that the plane belonged to the Malian army transporting Wagner soldiers and was overloaded. "The causes are not yet known,"

the aircraft that crashed was registered in Belarus with tail number EW-412TH. It was flying a route from the Belarusian capital Minsk to Mali
The British defense secretary has proposed sending British troops to Ukraine to train Ukrainian soldiers on Ukrainian territory. Sounds kind of risky, but shows dedication.
Russia’s Navy has basically abandoned Crimea. One aspect of the offensive that hasn’t received enough attention.
Yeah, for all the talk about how the counteroffensive has failed or disappointed by COD bros, this is pretty huge and doesn't get talked about enough. A country with no navy is pushing back the supposed #2 army in the world's navy, and doing it effectively. It should be noted that the sea battle isn't entirely won though. Russia can/will still inflict damage. But russia was pounding Ukraine from the sea for a while, and now they are pushed back to a much less effective area.

This is probably one of those things which reflect the "tiered" system of the Russian military.
There's well trained, well disciplined and well equipped troops, and then there's the guy's who are drafted against their will, get handed a bunch of rusty Soviet era stuff after a quick training and just dumped somewhere along the line to get the numbers up. Trench defense is likely exactly what those low quality troops do a lot of the time.
