No worries.

I think that they are deploying 1000 troops with more to come, which combined with the troops in Latvia and other deployments is going to be very tough on the military.

The most disturbing thing about this is the amount of people that think the conservatives are making a big deal out of nothing

We've all lied on our resume. Some lies are a bit dumber than others.

Do I think it makes him less effective at his current job? No.
Do I think he should keep his current job based on what the lie was? Probably not.
Should it matter if he is good at his job? Also probably not, but it is what it is.

These current lies aside, he hasn't been good anyway

Its not a lie, he could survive a lie. But he's now been caught in multiple lies.

twice with the architech lie
Another lie about his role in Afghanistan during the ethics investigation over Afghan detainees
Another lie about our Allies being ok with the withdrawl of the CF-18's from the fight with ISIS
Another lie about the capability gap concerning fighters, and stack onto it another lie about the costs and capabilities of the Super Hornets.

This isn't about lying on his resume once, this guy is almost a like the John Lovitz pathological liar character from Saturday Night Lie

"Yeah, I was in Afghanistan . . . I was a Colonel, no a general and I did a good, great, I won the whole war, that's the ticket.

Have you met my wife, Morgan Fairchild who I've seen naked"

I would argue that that line isn't true anymore, mainly because our capability is so stripped back.

We are no longer in that elite reputation field. Your line is the same line that our Prime Minsters like to pull out. "We can punch above our weight", "We're the best little army in the world"

Don't get me wrong, our troops and pilots and sailers do a great job when they're asked to, but that's only a small part of the equation when its comes to declaring pound for pound that we're the best army in the world.

In terms of equipment, tempo, ability to deploy and stay, and support our troops on those deployment are so sub par that no soldier can over come it.

What makes the Canadian military impressive is its ability to succeed despite all the short comings of kit & equipment.

Rarely will you see so few do so much with so little.

Nope, he should be setting the standard.

His actions fly in the face of all good leaderships principles

Some of that is lying like a politician. If we crucify him for that, we crucify all of them. Past, present and future.

I am not sure you understand how the "military" views this type of thing.

There is zero leniency given, especially for an officer.

The big difference in that in military terms what he did beyond the whole valor stealing would be conduct unbecoming an officer and he would have been facing charges and probably been thrown out of the service.

And this is bigger then an ordinary political lie and on top of that he has a track record of dishonesty.

He's got very little to no credibility and I have to wonder first of all as the Defense minister he's expected to be the key note at the graduation at the RMC. Can he even do that when the schools motto is Truth Duty Valor.

He's already ducked out on a fund raiser for Afghan Veterans because of stuff.

Can he show up at RMC and speak hypocritically?

Plus can he even go to Brussells for the next NATO meetings?

Its time to tie a can to his a$$ and send him to the back bench.

Canadian Senate defense committee releases a report with several recommendations

http://www.citynews.ca/2017/05/08/co...idence-motion/

This report just piles on to the defense minister ripping him on the Super Hornet Decision. It also makes some recommendations

Quote:
The report was the second in a series published by the committee over the last month, the first of which called on the government to double defence spending to two per cent of GDP over the next decade.
This latest volume provided a veritable laundry list of items that senators felt the government should buy with the extra $20 billion such an increase in spending would entail.
Not likely to happen, though I do believe that there has to be a compromised rise in defense spending, and not just a token one like I believe the Liberals are going to release. I asked a question that was asked in this article. How could the government go so far into deficit in their last budget and really not accomplish anything?

Quote:
That included purchasing 12 new submarines, acquiring attack helicopters and increasing the Air Force fighter-jet fleet to 120, among other things.
I believe that the Upholders that we bought from the British were probably the right submarines at the time, but the government badly bungled the procurement. The Upholders were a unique combination in that they had the combat systems of the British Trafalger SSN in a diesel electric boat. In theory this would make a very quiet boat with very good sensors and combat systems. Unfortunately these boats have had a lot of trouble since day one, and I don't think they have the range or ability to do what we really need which is arctic deterrence and intelligence gathering.

I do believe that Canada would be smart to have an expanded fleet of submarines but 12 is probably unnecessary. a fleet of 6 boats would probably allow for a good operational tempo. while allowing coastal patrol and fleet security.

Something along the lines of the Gotland AIP boat that's creating a big reputation for itself, or even looking at what the french are doing with the SMX boat that's on the drawing board is stark improvement over what we have now.

While I like the idea of attack helicopters, I don't see a need for them. Most of our army deployments are overseas and bringing attack helicopters with them without something like a helicopter or troop carrier would be extremely costly or time consuming.

The idea behind purchasing the F-35 is that you don't need an airforce of 120 conventional planes. Instead you create an advanced and smaller airforce that can inter operate, sneak into combat situations and accomplish their mission.

The Senate in this case is almost still thinking conventional 4th generation fighters.

The Senate committee report basically slams the government on this super hornet thing.

Anyways interesting read and its possibly counter to the Liberal Defense white paper that's coming.

Sarcasm, not really.

http://www.cbc.ca/comedy/harjit-sajj...ster-1.4093524

Harjit Sajjan apologizes for exaggerating his role, says he may resign as prime minister

A contrite Harjit Sajjan apologized to the people of Canada today, saying that he regrets calling himself the architect of an Afghan offensive called Operation Medusa in 2006.

He says that he understands this is a major breach of his responsibility and that he may have to step down as prime minister.

https://www.orangeville.com/news-sto...-morneau-told/

Sounds like there was a massive under estimation of the Super Hornet costs

https://www.orangeville.com/news-sto...-morneau-told/

With those figures ballooning now to 5-7 billion for 18 planes according to a CBC report it places the Super hornet costs at over 300 million per plane with a life span of 12 years according to the DND.

Even at a cost of 88 million per hypothetically for the Super hornet vs $140 million for the F-35, the Superhornet shouldn't even be in the conversation just based around capability.

Captain, looking at that report, what is the possibility of us upgrading the Griffons along the lines of the USMC UH-1Y project?
