Default Aeroplan's Preferred Airline... Porter?

Well this sucks.

Nothing against Porter itself, I haven't actually flown with them. From friends that have they have great things to say (unless there's IRROPS then apparently they're a gong show).

I do love Billy Bishop Airport, but Porter is going to be the new preferred airline of Aeroplan?

Living on Cape Breton Island, Porter doesn't fly here. So what do I do with my miles? Drive to Halifax? For what, a flight to Toronto? With a stop over in Montreal? On a Q400?

That sound awful.

I can't imagine how angry you folks in Alberta must be reading this news. Going from a national airline who flies international with a huge Star Alliance network to, "We fly in some of North Eastern North America on an exclusive Q400 fleet" Porter.

Use all your points before 2020 and then stop collecting them?

Sounds like you will have other choices?

It'll depend how many miles those flights cost. Right now the non-standard bookings are a terrible deal. If all they end up with is terrible value options they buy with cash and Porter, I can't see them getting much traction.

Even in TO Porter goes to very few vacation destinations.

Porter is one partner. They are also negotiating with Air Canada and One World Alliance.

They rejected the last offer from Air Canada but are not that far apart so it wouldn't surprise me to find them selling to Air Canada in a few weeks.
