Icon55 Chad Johnson to the Sabres

Michael Russo @Russostrib
Hearing free-agent goalie Chad Johnson very likely returning to the #sabres

Flames will probably sign a cheap backup goalie then, that will compete the kids. Enroth, Condon?

Rather have an experienced NHL backup so we're not one injury to Smith away from having a goalie tandem with a combined 1.3 games of NHL experience. That could be a disaster. Not to mention Gillies really needs another year in the minors. No reason to rush our young goalies at all and plenty of reasons why we shouldn't rush them.

He's a good guy, so good luck to him! I'm happy though he's not coming back as I was never comfortable with him in net most of the time.

I think its going to be Rittich.

If things happen during the season then address it at that point, but for right now we need our goalies playing games.

Not to mention, Gillies needs to play. Not sit on the bench.

If they aren't rolling the dice with Gillies or Rittich then I'm all for Condon. Kid can play and his last contract was $575k.

Johnson had that one really good stretch of games and was otherwise meh.

Glad to see Flames brass strong in their convictions. If you're not sure of the guy, why re-sign him? Thanks and move on.

I am totally fine with this.

I still think they will sign a backup though. And I am good with that too - would rather have a new devil to get excited about than bring back the old one that I am already somewhat disillusioned with.

In the end, they are probably mostly equivalent. But still, new is more interesting.

Won't be Gillies Treliving pretty much said as much last night

What about a Bouma for Lack trade? Similar money both have a 1 year deal left

Upon hearing the news he would be going back to Buffalo, Chad was so excited he immediately whiffed at a shot high glove side.

From what perspective? From Gillies' perspective he really needs to play games after missing almost the entire season 2 years ago. Rittich may be ready but wouldn't be hurt playing more in the minors. From a depth perspective it makes little to no sense to be one injury away from a tandem who has 1.3 games of NHL experience to their credit.

Seems like its impatient fan sentiment more than anything pushing for these kids to make the NHL. Not convinced Treliving thinks its time based on his interviews. I think he'll want proper depth in case of injuries and not roll the dice that Smith will never get injured.
