I would expect that if the Oilers see a 4.5 ask they're out.

Also, an injury or two to the top four, and all of a sudden you have 3-4 rookie defensemen in your line up.

That's how you send the Islanders a lottery pick.

Better to get a decent veteran for the bottom pairing.

Uncool, Stone. Your wifey wants to hang around I bet. Stay and be part of a good thing here!

Engelland makes $2M for the year, which is all he signed for. Which, with taxes, is probably about $2.5M Calgary would have to pay, not counting the fact he probably gave a home town discount to LV.

If Stone signed for $2M in Calgary, I'd be just fine with it. Even a little more. But I think Stone want's twice that.

Still, there's hope. Look at Russell last year. His ask was more than what people were willing to pay and he wound up having to take way less at the end of the summer. Versteeg is another example. Sometimes the market is a harsh teacher, and Stone's overall stats last year sucked. I think he's valued most highly in Calgary because he played well for a quarter season here.

Good job by Treliving not getting fooled by the PDO spike this time. Dodging Stone gives me even more confidence in management than I already had, which was quite a bit. Stone is a #5/6 at best. Now don't ruin that by chasing Alzner.

I'm imagining the bonuses are along the lines of games played.

It still makes his AAV $2M according to capfriendly.

I would love to get Stone for 3.5 x 3. Having him on the bottom pairing would really solidify our group.

Don't be greedy, Michael. Be a part of what Tre is putting together here, could be a winning formula and that's what it's all about. You'll still be a millionaire regardless. But being a millionaire Cup champ is priceless.

I like Stone and all and would love to see him shore up our D, but that price is straight-up out of the question.

Your career could end at any time. Never take a discount. Get max value on every contract you negotiate.

F that.

All the free agents would sign in Pittsburgh if that's how they thought, and that's the last thing we need.

But of course McDavid will take a discount to "build a winner".

Someone like a Kyle Quincey or Matt Hunwick, perhaps. Along those lines.

Good on him for trying to get the best contact he can. I would be willing to do 3 or 3.5 to stabilize the bottom pairing, even out the workload, and depth for injuries. It all depend if there's a team out there that thinks he's a bona fide top 4 and have the ability to pay for that...

Elliotte made several allusions yesterday to a prospect defenseman the Flames refused to include in the Hamonic deal, instead opting to include an extra 2nd round pick.

The obvious choices are Kylington and Andersson, and I'm leaning more towards OK for his ceiling... Anybody know anything else about this?

The rate the Oilers are paying defence, Stone would get a 5.5 million offer from them.

I would think it was Fox. It's been mentioned a few times on the forum that teams seem to be slipping him into deals the same way they used to with Gaudreau before he signed his ELC.

It doesn't surprise me about Stone. He would be 5th on the depth chart and the salary he would command just wouldn't fit the structure.

We have a great top 4, but we are paying for it.

There was a rumour that Garth Snow was after Fox, but Treliving wasn't having any of it.
