Calgary Hitmen should trade for him. That way Flames Development group can keep an eye on him. If Flames decided to get him to play for Stockton, that would be good too. They just opened a couple of spots with Kenny Morrison and Ryan Culkin gone.

Maybe it's because he was one of the oldest players in his draft class. The old Monahan effect.

Default With the 16th OA pick, the Flames select D Juuso Valimaki

Not to change the subject, but I kind of feel the same way. If you are not wealthy in the Stockton area, it is a tough place. Surprised our team decided that was the best option.

Hey why not hire the Hitmen GM to be the Flames Director of Scouting so we can go full Oiler in a groupthink management philosophy. Having outside & even disenting perspectives refines management & enables growth. Tri-Cities recruited & developed this player from a foreign country. Why fix what isn't broken because someone thinks they know better. That's pure Oiler.

Correct, he quit school at the age of 13 to fully be on hockey. Crazy? Yup.

Stockton is a gang town. Can't believe our farm team is located in that ####.

Interesting, odd because he comes from a country that has an amazing public school system. Surprised they let him just quit school.

lol it's not that bad, weathers nice and the beach is close. I doubt the players are living in tough neighborhoods. God their hockey players for #### sakes, they're fine. Stockton is a lot better than Aidorondack, that was awful

Ok, I might be wrong on this one, made a bit research as I took it from my memory, but he moved away from home when he was 13 to get a better chance at hockey, seems like he did finish his regular school though, so that means he was around 15-16 when he quit, guess he didn't take it too seriously tho as he can't speak English for sh*t.

Post-draft his agent may be steering him towards that GED

That's interesting news!
While Valimaki could play in the AHL next season, I thought it sounded like he would most likely return to the WHL and be the captain for Tri-Cities. Probably better to get #1 minutes in the WHL for one more season than fight with all the defensemen in Stockton for playing time.

But will his NHL style game develop faster in Stockton than Tri-Cities? He could easily be a top 4 d-man in Stockton I believe.

Looking at the potential defensemen for Stockton, I think you are probably right. He could be a top 4. They had the Tri-Cities GM on the Fan 960 a couple of days ago and it sounded like he expected him back if he didn't make the Flames team, but I don't think he was told that specifically from Treliving.

I would be shocked if the Flames would rather have him in the WHL than the AHL. Seems like a fantastic opportunity to get this kid groomed as a pro asap and fast track his development somewhat.

His skating needs to improve, his pivots look awfully choppy. Maybe WHL is better for that development.

I don't see that. His C cuts seem very fluid, heel to heel, and his power and acceleration look explosive in his first two strides, after opening up.

It's Stockton, not Compton. Have you ever been there? Even Oakland is looking at lot better these days.

Beach is not close. It's far from close. Stockton is terrible. It's a little bit danger.
