In a few years when McDavid and Draisaitl have left, and the Oilers are bad again we’ll look back on all the conference finals they made it to and all the eventual Stanley Cup winners they lost to.

Tocchet has now suggested this is a dtd type thing. The longer the series goes, the more likely he is to play again.

What an awful start to the play-offs for Western Conference goalies. The only goalie to get out of game 1 with a sub 3.00 gaa and above .900 S% was hurt in the process.

It is also the playoffs. If his leg was severed, I would still expect Tocchet to say it is dtd.

Yeah, a coach is almost always going to say day to day once playoffs start.

Also true.

I've seen nothing saying how the MRI looked. Just that he had one and it's day to day.

I predict they'll keep him out if Canucks look to be in control but force him in by game 5 if the backups clearly aren't going to cut it.

I think he might be back for game 6 or 7. I think if the series is only 5, we don't see him again.

I feel bad for my boys back home and Blasty86. Imagining a season like they had for the Flames and then our number 1 going down and potentially out for the playoffs.

It suuuucks.

But we have some good copium to huff while we move forward. We have a team that is good at snuffing out chances and locking games down. While our special teams remain a problem, at 5on5 the Canucks looked a head above the Preds. And quite frankly a horror scenario like this is why you go out and get a back up like DeSmith.

Stay out of the box, keep the pressure up 5on5. They can still win this series. I do think anything after this is feeling real bleak though.

DeSmith played in one playoff game two years ago.
It was the triple overtime game against the Rangers.

Lol @ canucks.

I thought demko might struggle with a long run but didn't peg him to be down 1 game in.

Who's the third stringer in this scenario?

They probably still beat the oilers in front of DeSmith though. Skinner is an average goalie at best in the playoffs and that's what DeSmith is, and the Canucks are the deeper team in front of the goalies with much better D.

Just a reminder that people thought Vegas was in trouble when they went to their fourth? stringer Hill last year..

The Canucks third string goalie is Arturs Silovs.

At this point I don't think anyone is going to be conveying the results of the MRI, especially directly to a media member. The only thing that is known is that Demko is out for the next game with the odds being with his injury history that he will be out for longer.

This may be the worst case scenario for almost any playoff team though. With the exception of the Bruins how many teams can withstand their number one goaltender going down with an injury and stay competitive. Especially one that relied on their goaltending as much as the Canucks did this year.

Vegas last year when they went to the cup?

They had two goalies go down, in fact.

This might not be as dire as people think but I think you can say goodbye to coming out of the west if Demko is done for any stretch of time.

I’m not the one saying it’s bad, just sharing what the Dreger tweet said.

Of course this is bad, but at least you’re playing the Predators and not tossing in a rookie goalie.

Just when I posted and got my hopes up that the Canucks could stop the unthinkable happening, this news comes out.
