Yes, because then Carcillo doesnt get his knees taken out from under him and go into the boards head first. If Yakupov just stepped aside then Carcillo is going into the boards with his body/shoulder and theres no real harm.
Avoiding a check is no big deal, but turtling like that is.

As someone who's had his legs taken from underneath him in the corner I can attest to this. It's far far less dangerous for the checker if you sidestep than if you duck. When you duck the checker goes flying face first and with very little to no control into the boards. If you sidestep, the checker can brace with arms, body, shoulder as well as pivot to glance off the boards as you still have control of your legs.
