Love this 30 for 30 series, glad to see they have two more new ones coming out in March as I came across this today, they are called "Survive and Advance" (NC State winning March Madness) and “Elway to Marino” (83 Draft).
Sorry for bumping an old thread. Love stories like this. Definitely worth watching.

Somewhat related, though not a 30 for 30 film - but I watched Red Army. It is described as the story of the old Russian teams, but really it is Slava Fetisov's story. One of the best sports docs I've seen - find it and watch it.

30 for 30 made a very similar episode called Of Miracles and Men. Ive seen both and theyre both worth watching. I wish they would do more hockey episodes.
Another great one. So few of these are bad. To see Vince McMahon be so earnest about his failures was refreshing since he's so often solely associated with his WWE persona.
Bob Costas comes across as a bit of an arrogant dick, even if his criticisms were fair.
The story of the night they bumped SNL alone made it worth watching.

I was so surprised when I first saw this that it was as much about the Russians as it was the US team. I think I liked it a bit better than Red Army but both were excellent and worth watching even though there was a fair amount of overlap.
Has TSN been showing these and I've been missing them? I've seen Doc and Daryl on several times and I've seen Believeland but haven't seen Catholics vs Convicts or some of the others. Love to see the Orlando Magic one about Penny and Shaq in the 90s. Back when I was a huge NBA fan. I also see there one on John Daly.
Seems like they've not done a good job promoting them or scheduling replays. I miss having US Netflix, they added them shortly after they aired. I loved Trojan War, Four Falls of Buffalo and Fantastic Lies. Saw them all on US Netflix.
I guess I could download them easy enough.
Edit: looks like TSN is airing some of the newer ones at random times. Set the pvr for Catholics vs Convicts on Sunday.
XFL episode also replaying Sunday morning for anyone that missed it tonight.

Yeah I really enjoyed it, and its funny because Vince came across as fairly sympathetic. Its like he had an idea for the league and as time went on he didn't understand the product at all. He was lost.
I remember watching the XFL (Jermaine Copeland was one of the better receivers) and that first game was terrible, the football was just bad. They went to far with recruiting personalities, but didn't get the best players available.
Really well done show, that dinner at the end was really ernest and honest.

I've got my PVR set up to record them but it constantly misses some. I've not seen Fantastic Lies yet for instance. Lame.

It was worth seeing just for the Bob Costas/Vince McMahon interview.
TSN has been showing the new ones about a week after they premiere on ESPN which is frustrating and makes it hard to avoid spoilers. This Was The XFL was great, really enjoyed it. I believe the next new one is "One And Not Done" about John Calipari which should be good.

Agreed. He is usually a bit condescending but this was over the top. His interview with Vince in 2001 was 15 years ago, you would think he might look back differently like Vince seems to... But instead he's still a condescending dick about it. His last line about how McMahon should have introduced the league was unnecessary.
Not sure how much it was touched on as I haven't seen it yet, but Vince basically set up this league all out of spite... a few years earlier, Ted Turner was contemplating or outright planning to do a summer football league.
No way Vince would have that happen, considering the Monday Night Wars that was in full swing at that time and those two guys were about as disdainful about each other as you could expect.
Vince's ego took over, and figured he could do it better, and, first, and costs be damned (obviously this was before WWE was a public company)...so just getting a major network like NBC involved and the league off the ground with actual proper football people and players was a miracle in itself. Having a major project like this, starting a league from the ground up (I remember the press being surprised that Vegas was taking odds on games) actually legitimized, ahead of Turner, and able to shove it in Ted's face was vindication that he was the better promoter, and that was a huge personal and professional victory all by itself.

They didn't touch on that, they also omitted McMahon's attempt to buy the CFL, a move that was actually supported by a few CFL franchises including Calgary.
