Per McKenzie, Sam Bennett is technically on the roster as an injured player. Won't be available though

Wish Bennett was playing. Nice to see Klimchuk make it.

Klimchuk is a guy I know nothing about, with all the talk the last year revolving around Gaudreau, Bennett, Poirier, etc I haven't heard his name mentioned much at all. Anyone with some knowledge about the kid want to share what kind of player he is, and what we might be able to expect out of him?

Ryan Jankowski says they want 4 scoring lines. No grinders or shutdown lines.

McKenzie says they are following the Olympic model

My understanding of him is that he is more of a complimentary player. Likely won't be an elite offensive talent but will put up points.

Very versatile can play on the wing or center, on the top line or on the 4th line. Effective on the PK and PP.

No Dylan Strome seems to be a little surprising as well, he is only leading the OHL in scoring.

Also of note Duclair, Horvat, Lazar and Drouin's respective NHL teams haven't closed the door on them going to the WJC.

I don't think he'll ever be a star impact player, but what's nice about Morgan Klimchuk's situation is that that he can develop in relative peace and obscurity for us. If this was 5-10 years ago, there would a ton of pressure on the guy right now because we had nobody else...instead our depth allows guys like him and Jankowski to develop at the pace they need to. He doesn't have to be a saviour like Baerstchi was.

If needed, he is also the perfect type of asset to trade for a bigger hole in the lineup (ie a young dman). A 1st rounder will be able to get you solid value, but he won't be visibly missed since he hasn't even had a chance to impact the parent club.

Depth is grand.

I hate that they invite 2 goalies that are already on the team out of camp. The Canadian goal tending has not been very good over the previous few years. I don't know why a Jarry isn't there to create more competition. Fucale is having a terrible season up to this point with both Comrie and Jarry having far superior seasons (again), but Fucale will be gifted the starter spot.

Reeks of politics to me.....same as if Fredrik Gauthier makes the team.

Agreed. I just hope he's able to pick up his production a bit this year. He's a bit over a point per game right now - which at his age and his draft position seems a tiny bit low perhaps.

Is that why they invited Gauthier?
