Flames 2014-15 season seven-game sets thread: The big picture

In light of the recent shortsightedness around here (8-game losing skid) I thought it would be interesting to look at the seven-game sets from the beginning of the season to see where we're at.

I thought it would be interesting to have a running thread to monitor this which this first post will be reserved for updates over the course of the season.

Set 1 (1-7): 4-3-0 (0.571)

Set 2 (8-14): 4-1-2 (0.714)

Set 3 (15-21): 4-3-0 (0.571)

Set 4 (22-28): 5-2-0 (0.714)

Set 5 (29-35): 0-6-1 (0.071)

Set 6 (36-42): 4-3-0 (0.571)

Set 7 (43-49): 5-2-0 (0.714)

Set 8 (50-56): 5-2-0 (0.714)

Set 9 (57-63): 3-3-1 (0.500)

Set 10 (64-70): 4-2-1 (0.643)

Set 11 (71-77): 4-1-2 (0.714)

I searched but couldn't find anything.

My technique is terrible.

Mods feel free to delete this thread.

Reality's still reality and the Flames have put themselves in a much more compromised position with this skid, but it felt much better thinking about it in these terms after Hartley mentioned it the other day.

New set now, so hopefully the guys have that mindset and can purge the memories of this ugly December.

To be fair, the title of that thread is misleading...

I actually prefer this to the other thread as it looks at the games in 7 game chunks. Not a "best of seven" series. So thanks and please maintain, as I'm too lazy to do so on my own.

Have won every single seven game set but the one, tossed up a goose egg and only one of fourteen possible points.

Just two wins in that set, or even a few more loser points and we would be sitting in such a solid spot.

I've been keeping up as well and from my calculations, we're only about 3 points behind where we should be if we won every series. That one series where we only got one point cost us a lot but we rebounded appropriately.

I would imagine if the flames go even 4-3-0 for the last portion of the season, they make the playoffs.

That's if the cut off of 96 points is still legit.

We still need to make up for that set 5.

Updated!

Set 8 (50-56): 5-2-0 (0.714)

Going 5-2 at the expense of the Canucks feels way better than 4-3.

3 more sets of seven left (and then 5 games in April to finish the season). I am truly impressed that they have come up on the right side or all but one of the series.

Such is life in the NHL. There's such a fine line between playoffs and early golf. One extra win per month is 12points over a season and a HUGE difference in overall results.

First post updated.

19 games to go.

Set 9 (57-63): 3-3-1 (0.500)

Rough road over the past couple of weeks and we were still able to get 7 out of 14 points.

Move along and win the next series.

Winning 4/7 games puts them at 72 points through 9 sets.

They are exactly at 72 points through 9 sets and if the playoffs started today, they would be in Vancouver for the first round.

Two more sets of 7 and a set of 5... In my estimation if they go 11-8, they'll make the playoffs. 94 points should be enough to get them in.

4-2-1 for the last set is not bad considering the recent losses to the Avs and Blues.

One seven-game set and one five-game set remain.

Onward and upward.

Set 1 (1-7): 4-3-0 (0.571)

Set 2 (8-14): 4-1-2 (0.714)

Set 3 (15-21): 4-3-0 (0.571)

Set 4 (22-28): 5-2-0 (0.714)

Set 5 (29-35): 0-6-1 (0.071)

Set 6 (36-42): 4-3-0 (0.571)

Set 7 (43-49): 5-2-0 (0.714)

Set 8 (50-56): 5-2-0 (0.714)

Set 9 (57-63): 3-3-1 (0.500)

Set 10 (64-70): 4-2-1 (0.643)

Still can't get over what an unbelievable season they've had, minus ONE seven game set.

Such a shame, because they didn't even really play that badly during that stretch, just couldn't lock down any points.
