Gonna answer one of my own questions in case others have it closer to December; Costco advent calendar (~$90) is Alberta/BC beers this year. Now maybe I can find some of them after December! (Never did find any of the German ones).

We had one of the German ones last year, very nice beers in there. The AB/BC one looks okay, but when 1/4 of it is Big Rock/Toolshed type beers that you can buy off the shelf, it's harder to justify.
They also have their Kirkland brand bourbon/rum Eggnog again. It sold out very quickly last year, and tastes amazing. Buy some now if you see if.

So many micro-breweries starting up and opening in Calgary and area right now.
High Line Brewing in Inglewood, #113- 1318 9th Ave. SE, announced that Fri Nov 18th from 4pm-10pm will be their grand opening. I think there are a couple more planned in the Inglewood area as well.

I'm still waiting for Last Best to start bottling their beers. Dirty Bird is my favorite beer of the moment but I hate having to go to a bar to get it

That beer is an homage to the Brew Brothers Black Pil.
Quote:
Dirty Bird Black Lager: Korogonas says Last Best is intent on drawing a clear distinction between itself and Brew Brothers — but the company is also keenly aware Brew Brothers’ Black Pilsner was a cult favourite in Calgary. In keeping with their “beer custodian” philosophy of giving people what they want, Last Best is brewing its own schwarzbier: “We’ve been getting a lot of requests from people via social media. I think it would have been selfish not to listen, just to distance ourselves from the (Brew Brothers) beer,” Korogonas says.

Last Best fills growlers - have you checked to see if any of your local outlets carry Dirty Bird, either at a growler bar or in pre-filled growlers?

Hey guys, not sure if it's been posted on this thread or not, but Medicine Hat finally has a brewery.
Hell's Basement Brewery.
http://www.hellsbasement.com
I work as a Brewhand/Marketing here, training up to become a brewer.
If there's any interest I can post some behind the scenes pics, a day in the life kind of thing

It is amazing how many new breweries are opening in Alberta right now, it's hard to keep up. Lots of promising brews, some still need a bit of work.
Probably my favorite right now is Blindman from Lacombe. Ever since they opened (I had a saison from one of their first batches) they have been killing it. Every beer I've tried has been spot on.

Saw this in Sobey's the other day and decided to try it on a whim
It's one of the tastiest things I've ever drank, even smelling it was awesome. Definitely my new favorite

Yep, that's a favourite of mine as well. Rogue consistently produces great beers

Yup, Troubled Monk from Red Deer is also very good. Their nut brown is great...
Still, though, like other things some new AB breweries, are still trying to find their stride. Grande Prairie (GP) Breweing is an example of this, sorry if any of you are on here!

Hazelnut brown nectar.... more like nectar of the gods!!
Everything they put out is gold. Except for the voodoo donut line, those are disgustingly sweet.

They had a maple syrup beer at one point at beerfest. It tasted exactly like maple syrup. Horrifying.

I dropped off 6 flats at Willow Park when we were up for Unity Brew last month. I'm not sure if they would have any left or not.

Here's some pics I have on my phone:
Transferring some rye brown ale into whiskey barrels to age for 9 months.
Making a concentrate of red jalapeńos and Cheyennes with organic maple syrup for a one-off cask.
Checking the Gravity in the Lab.
Filtering our Blonde Ale (the only beer we filter)
The touch screen control centre for our brewhouse
