Chiasson could totally be moved. Not a part of the future, not coming back next season etc. Flames pushing him back down the line up. If there is interest he'll be gone.

I think he is a good 4th liner. But ya if they can get a 3rd ir 4th for him then he should be moved!

I think it would be wise for Treliving to stock up on picks this year. I think this year there will be a lot of buyers wanting to push for the playoffs, but in the offseason there will be a lot of sellers needing to prep for the expansion draft

The worst draft in recent memory is not the time to stock up on picks - it's a time to put that 1st on the table and see what it gets you.

Nolan Patrick has been the top ranked player since last year. It's super troubling when a distinctly non generational player goes wire to wire in pre draft rankings. in the last year, nobody's done anything to even make it a conversation.

Trade all the picks

I wouldn't stock up on picks for the purposes of drafting amateurs. I would use them for currency in the expansion draft.

Come the offseason a lot of the playoff teams will have to shed their deep roster of someone good. Those teams can't make hockey trades (ie player for player) because that means they haven't solved their issue of having too many players subject to expansion draft exposure, so they'll look to sell them for assets exempt from the draft, such as recently drafted prospects or picks.

If Treliving can add a guy like Strome, Nieto, Fluery, or otherwise a solid asset in the off season, he's going to need the currency to do it

Bennett
Kane
Ferland
Tkachuk

That is an intriguing mix of brute force, skill and agitation right there. Teams would go insane trying to deal with and contain a group of forwards that contained those four players. Still want nothing to do with Kane though.. too risky of a pick up and the cost I think would be too rich.

Shattenkirk likely only to be traded as a rental not a sign and trade
Armstrong wants a 1st, top prospect, plus something else
On 3 occasions - Edmonton last summer, a team in November, and another team last month - there have been deals consumated by the Blues on Shattenkirk conditional on him agreeing to signing an extension. In each of those situations no agreement with Shattenkrik was reached
The team last month offered 7 years, $42 million
According to St. Louis Dispatch, the team that offered 7 years, $42 million is believed to be the Lightning

Hadn't heard of this being confirmed before:
This is believed to be at least the second trade proposal the Blues have had within the last year that Shattenkirk has vetoed. He also turned down a potential deal to Edmonton last June that would have yielded forward Taylor Hall, according to league sources. Hall was eventually dealt to New Jersey for defenseman Adam Larsson.

HAHA, stupid Oilers!

Also, Arizona the November team?

Elliotte Friedman ‏@FriedgeHNIC
ARIZ also had permission to talk to Shattenkirk at one point early this season, but a contract could not be worked out.

Even if the draft isn't great, that doesn't mean to throw our hands up and assume nothing will come of it.
Any big trade that the Flames make will be to add to the long term future of the steam. We're not in a place where we can gamble on veterans giving us a little boost for a quarter of the season.

How could they possibly afford that!?!

They have Johnson, Palat and Drouin to resign, plus they're losing Boyle and Conacher. Not unless they're going to lose Carle in that trade.

There's speculation they're not keeping Johnson.

Button sure scoffed at the suggestion the Flames would consider trading Tkachuk. Sounds like he's very high on Matty.

That was embarrassing to even suggest.

I wouldn't do Tkachuk straight across for Duchene let alone part of a package.

For those who are out of the region, what was the package suggested?

The idiot said that for someone like Duchene maybe it starts with someone like Matthew Tkachuk and Button didn't even give him time to finish... guy try's to double down and elaberate and starts saying Tkachuk again but Button cuts him off harder and says a guy like Sam Bennett and the guy awkwardly says 'ya I was gonna say a Tkachuk or a Bennett'

No total package was suggested but man was the awkward.
