I did see an entry list for the 2024 Aussie Open and Felix, Denis, and Milos are all on it. Obviously, it's early and doesn't guarantee anything, but it's good to see those names on the list.

Who's going to get Rafa in round 1 of the Aussie Open? Due to the fact that as Flames fans we can't have nice things, it will likely be Felix. By the way, the ranking number doesn't show unless you click on the tweet, but it's 664, 665, and 666 (yes, Cilic is the devil )

Tennis Hall of Famer Chris Evert has been diagnosed with a recurrence of cancer and is undergoing treatment again.
The 18-time Grand Slam champion said in a statement released through ESPN on Friday that the cancer was found after she underwent a series of medical tests this week. She is an on-air announcer for ESPN.
The statement says that Evert, who was first diagnosed with an early stage of ovarian cancer in December 2021, has again begun undergoing chemotherapy treatments.
"While this is a diagnosis I never wanted to hear, I once again feel fortunate that it was caught early," she said in the statement. "Based on a PET CT scan, I underwent another robotic surgery this past week. Doctors found cancer cells in the same pelvic region. All cells were removed, and I have begun another round of chemotherapy."

Shapovalov, Raonic, Nadal, Cilic and Opelka are all using protected ranking so they will be unseeded!
Other landmines include
Wawvrinka 49
Bautista Agut 57
Monfils 74
(Thiem 98) actually isn't in the draw yet, he's the next alternate.

Also interesting to note that Bianca is missing from the AO entry list.

Are we really attempting to compare players pre and post poly strings? Not to mention other advances in racquet technology over the last 20 years or so? I guess Nick is just looking for engagement since he won't be playing Melbourne (wrist).

Yeah let's see how hard he's hitting serves with a Dunlop Max 200G and gut strings.

An excerpt from Andre Agassi's book "Open"
People talk about the game changing, about players growing more powerful, and rackets getting bigger, but the most dramatic change in recent years is the strings. The advent of a new elastic polyester string, which creates vicious topspin, has turned average players into greats, and greats into legends. [Coach Darren Cahill] puts the string on one of my rackets… In a practice session I don't miss a ball for two hours. Then I don't miss a ball for the rest of the tournament. I've never won the Italian Open before, but I win it now, because of Darren and his miracle string.
That miracle string was Luxilon Big Banger, I believe...

bigger/stronger/faster/more durable also owes a lot to modern sports science. It's like how old timer NHLers smoked a couple packs while sitting in a sauna to lose weight for training camp.

Didn't Guy Lafleur and a bunch of his Habs teammates light up between periods of games? I'm pretty sure Mario Lemieux was a smoker in his early days with the Penguins. The off-season training was no gravy on his fries lol

It's such a ludicrous statement by Nick. Give Nadal a wooden racket with old strings and he couldn't hit his bullwhip forehead, it would literally be impossible. Give prime Sampras a newer racket and the latest strings and he would be the #1 player in the world last year routinely beating the top players of the game except maybe Djokovic.
Not to mention the homogenizing of the surfaces from years past. Wimbledon plays very differently now than in the 90s.

Somebody tweeted out that Nick has replied multiple times (at latest count five) to Becker's tweet above. Just take the 'L' and move on Nick.
