Vermette was a healthy scratch too. The depth that Chicago has down the middle is insane...
I still think they will be the team to beat in the West.

Crawford will be the Blackhawks starting goaltender for game two.

For Wednesday's game, the Centers were Toews, Richards, Shaw, and Kruger...as you said, Vermette was a scratch...Tereveinen is also a "natural" center...Sharp has spent time at Center in his Chicago career, and may well be the best option as the #2 C (as he was in the 2010 Cup run), but prefers wing...Saad, Nordstrom, Kane, and Versteeg all also been tried at Center over the passed few seasons.
Vermette has found no chemistry with any of the Line Combos that he has been tried with...I expect that he will be a scratch, unless another forward breaks down

Losing him for any length of time would severely damage the Preds' chances of taking this series.

Mike Fisher is definitely out for tonight's game...tough break for the Preds.

Many 'Hawk fans are panicking, and screaming for an unproven journeyman, Darling, over Crawford, and for the benching of somebody for Vermette...this was my response on a 'Hawk board:
For my part, the take away from the two games in Nashville, is that we won one from one of the league's best at winning at home, despite not playing very good hockey.
Crawford had a few poor games...the whole damn team did...
I have been unhappy with Stan's roster moves...but...unless the question is: Which deadline acquisition has had less impact on positive team performance than any NHL player except Kimmo Timmonen? The answer is NOT Vermette...the guy has done NOTHING, in a 'Hawk uniform, and was given ample opportunity to demonstrate chemistry and faceoff prowess...he had failed on both.
Benching Nordstrom means compromising the already struggling main PK forward pair (and thanks again for dumping Smith, Stan...yeah, yeah, you had to make room for TT, but, it is not like HE has burned it up either).
We all knew that riding Rozival was going to be a guaranteed minus...but, apparently, I was the only member here that would have preferred keeping Brookbank to Rozy, at least Brookbank occasionally hit people.
But the truth is, that despite the doom and gloom...we took the game we needed in Nashville...now they have to protect the UC ice.

The Nashville Tennessean is reporting that Shea Weber will NOT make the trip to Chicago for games 3 and 4..."lower body injury"

Pretty devastating loss for the Preds although no more devastating than the Flames losing Giordano.

Way less so, I would even argue. Preds now have a blue-line of Josi, Franson, Ekholm, Ellis, Volchenkov, and Seth Jones. Still pretty good

Throttles are wide open at the UC...amazing pace to the 1st, so far...4th line goal by Dejardins for the 'Hawks...bad line change leaves Ribiero cruising the slot unchecked to make it 1-1

Toews scores right away in the 2nd period, then Ekholm scores the next shift AGAIN.
2-2.
