Engelland was amazing on the 5 on 3 kill tonight. So glad to have Stone now as well to help with some of the heavy lifting. We have had plenty of offensive dmen for a while now. What we have been missing is more steady guys that can freeze the opponents on the boards and clear the pucks out. Basically we have been missing a guy like Regehr far more than most realise imo.

I mentioned in another thread:

Flames biggest needs are:
Prime Iggy
Prime Kipper
Prime Reggie

Add those 3 to this team and it's the Cup favourite.

Speaking of Dougie, over the last calendar year only 4 defenders have more points than his 54. Burns (85), Karlsson (70), Hedman (65) and Byfuglien (55). Considering Burns, Karlsson and Hedman are likely going to be the three nominees for the Norris this year, that's pretty good company.

Just took a look at the remaining Flames schedule. I didn't realize that this 3 day break before the Montreal game is the last time they have 2 or more days off in a row until the end of the year.

A game every other night, 16 in 32. That seems like an unusually intense end to the season, no?

Yes it is.
World Cup plus 5 days mandated break condensed the rest

It definitely is, but we also don't have any back to backs which compared to a lot of teams (LA has three) is a bit of a god send

I would think it's ironic that the Flames spent a decade with those 3 and were never able to surround them with a team that could push the playoffs. Now the Flames finally have a team built, the holes in the line-up are exactly what those three guys bring.

After last nights game, Monahan now has 101g + 101a for a total of 202 points in 303 games. Now I have to spend the rest of the day trying to not thinking about how grotesquely improbable a stat line like that is.

The radio guys should ask Friedman if the Hamilton trade is the steal of the decade.

Friedman was actually giving Gio some Norris love (just a bit). He seems to give Gio credit for Hamilton's play as well.

Remember that +/- that Johnny hated so much?? -9 now and trending towards even - he's a +9 over this 7 game streak!

I heard that too. It was pretty nice to hear, especially since Gio had a pretty rough start to the season, some people wanted him gone, and his contract seemed like it might become an anchor sooner rather then later.

He's well worth the money and should be getting more love.

It would be even some more thing if the +/- is something like +44...and I don't know the answer.

You'd expect a team to have weaknesses where there used to be strengths when the strengths move on, because you'd focus less on drafting those areas. So, it's actually the opposite of irony. Don't ya think?

It's potentially explainable - and maybe even somewhat probable. But it's still very much ironic.

I have heard Friedman confess on a few occasions this season that he LOVES Calgary's roster. He was even saying this in mid-late November when the team looked like they were going nowhere.
