I wonder if management would have the balls to do this if they were playing a good team tonight.

Spector is on the fan right now and said they showed up late for practice.

Wow, a good AHL team could make a game out this one with either team

Good move, hope the players learn their lesson

Are they not entitled to being entitled? It's a Leafs game, they probably paid a lot for the tickets.

I'd be bummed if I had my tickets for tonight. I can't imagine how bummed I'd be if it was one of my only chances to go to a game.

No fan is going to care if Russell is missing but Monahan AND Gaudreau? Might as well watch the Hitmen.
And the coaching staff and management can't make a decision because the guys that broke the rule are guys that the fans like to watch.

Not a very good sense of accountability for our young stars if Bouma can be benched and yelled at because he's just a 3rd liner, but better not get mad at our 1st line because some fans will be sad that they don't get to see them.

Fans pay to go watch the Calgary Flames play - last time I checked all the guys playing tonight are still members of the 23 man Calgary Flames roster.

You're comparing it to a DUI? Haha ok then.

I've come hung over and been late a few times. A couple times with my boss too haha.

I get told I look like ####, drink some water and get to work.

Her publicly criticizing me and sending me home wouldn't do anyone any good.

Because a punishment that is convenient is really a punishment?

When your parents punished you for breaking rules, did they wait until it was the most convenient time and punishment for you?

I have seasons and love the decision to hold our players accountable.

I'd frankly be embarrassed if it was reported our stars were late for practice and weren't held out of the game.

Remember when Ovechkin did it this year, then was held out?

Or Seguin last year?

There's got to be a better way to punish them that doesn't affect the team's playoff chances at such a critical time.

Cool. Thanks for the honest reply.

But this is the situation: When you advocate for special treatment of the stars, that is how resentment builds within a locker room. You divide the room, and you're screwed. That isn't just the kind of thing that gets a coach fired by a GM looking to salvage the situation, but it is the kind of thing that can utterly undermine a rebuild as in the worst case, the team would have to pick a faction to support and move out dissenters.

Mony and Gaudreau are still basically kids. They screwed up. If Hartley does sit them, they will hopefully learn from this. Especially with a guy like Giordano there to guide them.

Edit: Keep in mind also that we routinely mock Hall and the idiots up in Edmonton for their loss, party, loss, party, loss, party mentality. Remember Ference's veiled comments about it. We can't rightly continue to mock that if we're going to accept it in on our own team.

I have a problem believing Harley would do this as a knee jerk reaction. It's either something that's been building for a while, or was a very large infraction.

I don't like it, and I feel for the people going to the game, but I'm not going to out guess the coach here. He knows more than me, and I'm assuming everyone else here.

As a move, it's not just a good way to keep those players accountable, benching your best players shows the team no one is getting a free ride. Always earned, never given, right?

EDIT: On a positive note, think about how Gaudreau played when he got scratched that one game last year!

Ridiculous by Hartley. Punishing star players for breaking rules? Utter nonsense. Has he learned nothing from up north? The stars ARE the team and holding them accountable for anything is the path to ruin. Hartley will be lucky to have a job by March.

same thing I was thinking....

if there is a entitlement issue....nip it in the bud. don't want loser culture to set in, with golden boys who can do anything they want.
