Default What’s the saddest song you ever herd?

At running the risk of being labeled “emo” I will ask the question

I just started listening to Sun Kil Moons newest album April

Now not to say that this album is full of sad songs, it’s actually pretty upbeat like most of Sun Kil Moons stuff but it got me thinking of Mark Kozelek earlier Red House Painters work and how it’s some of the most depressing music ever made

One from them that as always stood out is “Drop” off the album “Ocean Beach”

It’s about a person who seems beautiful when they're fragile But in reality you know they are an ugly, vindictive person. Then you see them lying in a hospital bed, and you realize how much you love them it's one of those 'You don't know what you have until it's left you' kind of things, I think.

I'm not sure if it is the saddest, but it is pretty sad.

probably 'A Long December' by Counting Crows for me.

Damien Jurado has a whole swack of sad songs. 'Denton TX' always breaks my heart.

Sigur Ros' 'Untitled #1' gets me going too, though I'm not sure why as there's no lyrics.

(aside: what do you think of 'April' J Pold? I have it on repeat these days... love it. And that 'Lost Verses' opening track is a sad one).

Gary Jules' version of "Mad World" brought me to tears. I think it is amazing.

Not so much the songs but the videos associated with the Travis Tritt songs about the war vet who comes back his family after a war and they start a business etc...

From the early 90's I would guess......

I really like it...like I said it in my OP it reminds me of RHP and is pretty different from Ghost of the Great Highway (which was fantastic)

You're right Lost Verses is a said sad one, but nothing compared to some of Kozelek's other stuff

I my favorite tracks are "The Light" and "Harper Road"

Don't laugh but the first time I saw that video when I was probably 15 or 16, I thought the lyrics were "I wanna beat somebody, beat somebody blue" instead of "I wanna be somebody be somebody soon". Its was sort of a teen anthem for me.
