Default Local Loser on twitter

Came across this from crackmacs twitter feed. Looks like some local loser is grabbing video and pictures of local women and sharing them on his feed. I am torn on sharing this and giving this person a larger platform but this a pretty egregious violation of privacy and this kind of thing needs to stop. Hopefully they can be found. Call the police if you see this person.

@Canadacreep is the twitter handle.

Disgusted.

How on earth can Twitter let that guys account run any longer is beyond me. FYI Crackmacs has some photos of the sleazebag, seems like he likes the bow valley square area.

What's sad is I reckon this is only one of 100's of accounts like this on Twitter.

I was surprised to learn in journalism school that Canada has no privacy laws when it comes to photos. If you're in a public space, anyone can take your picture without permission. The only exception is people drinking in bars.

It is illegal to publish or sell identifiable photos of individuals. Social media has blurred the lines of what constitutes publishing.

I sort of get this...but what is the line between random shots of people on the street and all the way to trying to sneak an upskirt video of you?

I think that is the line.

Taking a photo of a women on the street in a dress (while creepy) seem to me to be legal.

Trying to see up her dress is illegal (or sure as #### better be).

I don't want to dip my toe in the "swamp" of lawyers here, but I think the guy could be prosecuted under a voyeurism charge. People who derive sexual pleasure from photos of people in public are committing a crime. He'd probably be open to a bunch of civil privacy suits as well. So it's very much worth catching the guy.

So from that article just taking pics or videos of the woman isn't actually against the law? Just the ones where the loser followed them to stairs and went up the dresses?

That seems weird to me.

As I understand, it's related to the reasonable expectation of something being private. Wearing a short skirt where anyone can see your legs negates the reasonable expectation that your legs are private, and therefore can be photographed. Same with the rest of you, when you are out in public.

While you may be wearing the short skirt however, you would still reasonably expect that everything inside that skirt would remain private. Pointing a camera UP your skirt to take photos is an invasion of that privacy.

A lot of Canadians think we have privacy laws that don't exist. When you're in public, anyone can take pictures of you for any purpose, as long as they don't sell an identifiable image of you without your permission. Sunbathing at Princes Island Park and someone takes a picture of you and shares it with his buddies? Perfectly legal. You have no right to privacy in a public space, and the law does not distinguish between looking at someone and taking a picture of them.
