Chia's having a miserable couple of days
Got an underwhelming return for Eberle
Looks like an over pay on Russell with a team heading towards a Cap Apocalypse
Cries about predatory offer sheets for Draisaitl, which to me screams that there are teams that are going to pull that trigger
Maybe he should shave off the rest of that fringe that he calls hair before it turns completely white.

I can't wait for the Oilers to have to pay McDavid, Draisaitl Nuge, Russell and Lucic a combined $34 million

The Bitumen spill has one more season to make some noise before yet another rebuild happens. Let the hockey gods let Talbot come down to earth and have a brutal season!

Found the same odds on ESPN.
Another website has them at +1000, only Penguins better.
I understand betting lines are created for different reasons, and bets go their way because of McDavid. But the facts would indicate the Oilers are considered contenders.

In the fall of 2006 Insiders believed the Oilers were going to score 400 plus goals in the 06/07 season. Insiders must be fortune tellers.

Vinny Gambini: Let me show you something.
[he holds up a playing card, with the face toward Billy]
Vinny Gambini: Oiler Fans's going to show you the bricks. They'll show you they got straight sides. He'll show you how they got the right shape. They'll show them to you in a very special way, so that they appear to have everything a brick should have. But there's one thing They's not gonna show you.
[turns the card, so that its edge is toward Billy]
Vinny Gambini: When you look at the bricks from the right angle, they're as thin as this playing card. The Oilers are an illusion, a magic trick. It has to be an illusion, 'cause they're thin and everything went perfectly for them, career years, a soft schedule, god like goaltending, no real injures. Nobody - I mean nobody - pulls the wool over the eyes of a Gambini, especially this one.

Maybe he should walk down the hall and smack Kevin Lowe in the back of the head. 10 years later his fine work will be their undoing, hilarious.

That would mean they get McDavid or Draisaitl on the cheap.

Can someone explain to me the cap problems that the Oilers have. I went on Cap-friendly and they have $20m cap space for this year and practically only Draisaitl to sign.
Next year, they have 9 players signed with $38.675m cap space...but their top 4 D is set for the long term.
Let's give Draisaitl $8m and that leaves $30.675m...and give McDavid $12m, that leaves $18.675m...to fill out a team that features:
Maroon-McDavid-Draisaitl
Lucic-RNH-XXX (Puljujarvi?)
Pouliot-Letestu-XXX
XXX-XXX-XXX
Klefbom-Sekera
Russell-Larsson
XXX-XXX
Talbot
XXX
$18.675m for 10 players....$1.8675m per player average. The Oilers had 7 players not named McDavid who made less than $1m on the roster this year.
This is with Pouliot and his $4m coming off the books after this upcoming year. I just dont see the 'cap hell' or 'cap crunch' .......but I'm no expert in this...
Anyone care to elaborate?

Maroon and Nurse will need new contracts...does that team look good enough to you?

Sekera, Klefbom, Larsson and Russell are "top 4 D set for long term" huh?
None of those guys are on the top pair on most teams. Sekera, Klefbom and Larsson are good middle pair guys. Russell should be nowhere near the top 4. If you think that's a D corps that gets you far, your nuts.

Top end of the team is good, meaning they'll get a lot of points. Their depth is garbage, meaning that they will lose in the playoffs when they face someone that can exploit that, which is also good.
