There are so many stand up comedians out there and it's easy to post many acts up, however, in this thread, please post one favorite stand up performance.
* This is from a different time for you younger kids. It's unpolished and raw, but it was where Richard Pryor started to take off. You can't compare it to today's comedy because that's like comparing Orr to Lidstrom.

Okay, maybe this is the thread where I can finally ask this burning question.
Who said this line and where is it from? I've tried searching but I cannot find it anywhere.
The line is something like this.
"When you open the Parkay in my neighbourhood, it says F#%$ you!"
Originally I thought it may have been Eddie Murphy, as it was from the early to mid 80's. It was said with a street / urban slang feel to it (if I remember correctly). I was just a young lad when I heard it.

Sounds like something Robin Williams would say using his black voice.
The best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be.
I understand that Carlin influenced a lot of today's comics, so recognize his importance, but I just don't find him funny. The clip above... I recognize the truth behind what he's saying, but am just nodding along, not laughing.
One guy I found hilarious, though, was Mitch Hedberg:

I agree with you about Carlin. I think he is overrated and too preachy. His comedy reminds of Andy Rooney if you added some profanity.

FYI Daradon, it was just a weird coincidence that the last thing I watched before I went to work tonight was your video, and the first thing I saw in the news when I got home was the LA Boardwalk news story.
I do love smart shock comedy, and the King of it is Jimmy Carr. Like savouring a bite of gourmet dining, where the flavours kick in over time, Carr's jokes have those levels of "ooooohhhhh....."

DEFINITELY nsfw....
NSFW!
I don't think that bit (my vid) was meant to be shock comedy at all. It's more about the occasional psycho thoughts that go through everyone's head from time to time. I've talked to many who admit it. I know I get them. Whenever I'm behind someone at the top of a large or steep stairwell a little voice in my head goes:
Man they would never see this coming... I could totally change their day! Sweep the leg!
Cause everyone gets these insane thoughts sometimes. They're actually totally without malice. It just pops into your head and you have no idea why. I'd never act on it. I'd never even act on it to someone I dislike. I probably wouldn't even do it if the guy had murdered my puppy and cleaned out my bank account. Yet you get this dumb and morbid thought just right there.

I think I am part of "everyone" and no, those type of psycho thoughts never, ever, enter my mind. The fact that you think this is a normal thought pattern scares me.
Someone like you just DID take that horrendous thought and make it reality.

Someone like me?
Wow, judge much? Was going to leave it alone cause comedy is subjective and if someone doesn't like it, no problem.
But you gotta get off your high horse buddy. And as for how normal it is, I bet we could do a poll on here that would confirm it's fairly normal. There are very sane people that have insane thoughts from time to time. In fact, it would be the ones that don't that scare me.
You don't like it, fine. But don't judge my values, my mental state, or compare me to the guy in the car.
Not sure you can Over rate George Carlin. But thats a difference of opinion. I love watching stand up comedians. I have far too many favorites to list but my top five:
1.George Carlin
2.Dennis Leary
3.Billy Connolly
4.Louis C.K
5.Lewis Black
Honorable mentions to: John Stewart, Ron White, George burns, Red Skelton, Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Murray, Bill Hicks, Steve Martin, Mitch Hedberg and Dave Chappelle.
I am sad that nobody has mentioned Bill Cosby. The last 30 years (Cosby Show, Kids Say the Darnedest Things, bad movies, then angry old man) has overshadowed that he was a heck of a standup guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSyg4uHjWMc
