Hey guys... need a bit of guidance on this one. (Read bottom for coles notes)
In the evenings lately between 8:00-10:30 I've had periodic slow downs on the net where my web surfing just hangs. The browser will just continue with loading in the bottom status and never give a 404 or other error. So I started doing the usual, reset modem, router etc. That didn't resolve it, so I started to check forums for any other users seeing the same thing on Shaw, nothing on that front either.
One night, was trying to get unblockus working but it kept saying no go (I have it set in the router). Confirmed on other devices it works, so narrowed it down to the PC. I ended up finding my TCP/IP settings were changed from Auto DNS to static and set to 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 which appear to be googles freeDNS. So set it back to auto and everything works fine. That is until I restart the PC and it gets set back to the same static DNS. Some research suggests that some trojans will set the DNS to googles in order to perform attacks of some sort. However, other than the periodically slow net and DNS settings, nothing else is out of the ordinary on the PC. I have also checked the router activity and logs, nothing seems odd there either. Any suggestions?
Coles notes: The DNS setting on the pc keeps changing to static and set to Google's DNS after a restart. No idea why.
