I posted this days before that draft. How can it be hindsight scouting when I said this before he picked by the Canucks?

Here's a dream scenario.

The Flames win 1OA and Habs get 2 or 3OA. Flames trade 1OA to Habs for their pick and the Flames' 2025 1st round pick. Flames select whomever they see as the best defenceman in this draft and now have two 1st rounders next year (at this point).

Win the lottery in 2026 and select McKenna.

Easy, peasy.

This team has been hunting for a legit #1C for about 30 years.

If they are lucky enough to win the draft lottery and pass on Celebrini there will be no words....

Aah, yes, the flaw in my dream was me thinking McKenna was a centre. Stupid, illogical dream.

Which isn't really my argument.
Canucks drafted on Need. Juolevi was almost the consensus top dman in the draft.

My two arguments are that there we're not four dman ranked above Juolevi and that Juolevi's career is a sad case of injuries and illness derailing what likely would have been an NHL career

Ah yes give up a top flight center to get a chance at a top flight center?

This drafts top ten is being seriously undervalued.

Although the more i think about it its not a bad idea. Walking away from this draft with Catton or Yakemchuk plus our first back? Hmmmmm? Catton has better junior number than point or draisaitl and i think yaks is going to be an absolute stud.

Would either of these two be a huge downgrade from celebrini with the addition of a top fifteen pick next year? If we get a stud center or stud defencemen from this draft I see it as a success.

Interesting actually.

If we win the lottery, it'd be foolish to not keep it and draft Celebrini

Yes.

It would be beyond foolish. CP would riot.

Vancouver needed a Dman, so passed on Tkachuk. Who got traded for, among other players, Weegar.

Not sure why this is relevant many years later.

They no longer need a dman.

The point is that if you draft the BPA, you can trade him for what you need.

If you draft for what you need, you're more likely to get a player who doesn't pan out.

Because they drafted BPA in Quinn Hughes. And had to trade a 1st and 2nd rounder for Hronek.

I daresay they still need a Dman though. If and when they fail this POs it will be because aside from those two, they rely on Myers, Zadorov, Soucy and Cole.

If the Canucks were better at drafting earlier, they don't have a Norris quality d man right now.

When the Canucks fail in the play-offs, the dmen likely won't be the story. It'll be that the team just stopped scoring.

Does to me.

I mean I didn't spend all day reading the rest of the topic, but I saw like 3-4 LOLs and the like after the Canuck's pick.

Means bad pick to me.

I mean... I spent like five minutes just bouncing around pages while trying to find the page that had the Canucks pick on it, since you linked the wrong page (Photon's fault for messing with forum code I am sure), and reading posts as I went.

Everything around the pick, leading up to it and after is that the Flames are getting one of the two players posters had hoped to land between Poolparty and Tkachuk. The worry was when Columbus reached for Dubois, who the Canucks had apparently wanted, they'd pivot to a different forward.
