I am not in the slightest concerned he will be able to turn that franchise around. The Oilers are a horrible team, and Edmonton is a horrible city. In those conditions up there, this kid won't be able to play to his full potential.
That is what worries me, the fans of the game are going to be robbed of seeing him blossom into a mega star. Anywhere but Edmonton would have been fine by me.... even Vancouver. Edmonton is going to suck the life out of him. It must feel good looking at the reaction on his face. It looked like he was just told Christmas was cancelled, and he had to go into reactor # 4 to try and stabilize the uranium pile.
As a fan, I would be ashamed.

Could you, at least, spell Connor properly in your sig?
Poor McDavid, his maple leaf coloured blue coat with white tissue must be covered in tears and vomit by now. Talk about a boys dreams being crushed.

None of those players are half as good as McDavid. MaDavid is different he can almost save a franchise by himself. generational talent.

The Penguins drafted Crosby, Malkin and were rounded out with a #1 goalie, defense and depth scoring and they won ONE cup.
The Oilers are an absolute tire fire from top to bottom. Adding one player like McDavid, no matter how good he is, guarantees nothing.
Edmonton is in such a hole, they are more likely to ruin his career then they are win a championship at this point.

But I thought the Oilers had EASILY...the top 5 group prospects in the league? Especially with that Reider kid. He has dynasty written all over him...
Oh well...you said it best....

It's been a great series so far. I can only imagine how fun an Oilers vs Flames series would be like, hopefully we'll get that soon.

Back2Back2Back 1st overall picks and they all suck now. Ever think that your team's prospect development strategy might be a little bit lacking?
Step 1: draft great prospect 1st overall
Step 2: immediately place great prospect on 1st line
Step 3: ruin great prospect
Repeat ad nosium or until the league decides to relegate your franchise to the AHL.

F*** McDavid, the NHL and the Oilers.
NHL is a bush league; has a team in any pro sports ever have 4 number ONE picks in SIX YEARS?!!?
I hope the oilers ruin McDavid just like they ruined the other 3 NUMBER ONE picks they have had...
their organization is a HELL hole, ten years of rebuilding is a travesty... the NHL owners should be wallowing in their own #### for allowing the rules to allow this to happen...

Barring injuries the Pens would have at least 2 cups by now, imo.

Is it too late to decide to go to college? He could Justin Shultz them in 3 years....I would take that option and enjoy the college star life Johnny had vs. the dumater Fire up north until his RFA years are done

As long as Oiler fans continue to think that winning a draft lottery will save the team, thus giving the management another pass, the BOA will remain a thing of the past.

As has been said the positive here is that Lowe and MacT just got five more years to run this organization. IMO the Oilers would be better going forward if they lose the lottery, clean house, and draft Hanifin than drafting McDavid if it means the KLowne show continues. Who's their number one defenseman and starting goaltender? Sorry but as good as McDavid can be he's just one player in a true team sport.

Meh...
In the hands of almost any other GM in the league McDavid, Hall, Draisaitl, and Nurse would be a tremendous core to build around.
But let's face it, this is the Oilers. I have no doubt that they will find a way to Oiler it all up.
