Well they're both LWs. I think there's one PPG coming in Part 2 when they were on together.

God I love rough and tumble hockey.

I almost forgot how soft his mitts were too. So slick with the puck.

I love watching this kids unpredictable play.

We have needed this type of player for so long and he fits perfectly.

He draws our team in to each game by amping it up and I love watching the passes, shots , facewashing, head games and his compete level.

This has to help other players who perform better with a guy like him around .....more piss and vinegar to get Versteeg, Bennett, Ferland, Lazar, Gio going.....push harder, dig deeper and challenge every night in your face.

Love this kid .

It's hard to argue with the success of the 3M line last year, but I can't help thinking a duo of Tkachuk and Bennett would give Sam the help he needs to have a breakout season. Either way, Tkachuk is a stud and will be a core piece of the Flames future success.

I think they'll be a long-term duo. I'd love if they both clicked together at some point as they could cause some chaos out there for sure.

Agreed. That said, the video really highlights how well Backlund and Tkachuk read off one another. Hopefully Jankowski forces himself into the third line centre spot, allowing Bennett to shift to wing (not that he won't be a good centre, only to give him more offensive linemates that play a compatible style of game). The Flames could then try the following look:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Bennett-Backlund-Tkachuk
Versteeg-Jankowski-Frolik
Stajan-Lazar-Brouwer

More minutes for Bennett on line two, quality vets riding shotgun with Janko as he breaks in.

Just spitballin'/

Thanks AC. Great video as always.

I'm very very thankful that both the Canucks and Oilers passed on him. I would easily hate him as a player if he wasn't a Flame.

the flames are in a good spot right now as far as their pairs, the core of the team is in 5 pairs, it would be perfect to spread them through 3 of 4 forward lines, and 2 of 3 d lines.

gaudreau - monahan - ferland

frolik - backlund - lazar

tkachuk - bennett - versteeg

stajan - jankowski - brouwer

giordano - hamilton

brodie - hamonic

kulak - stone

great distribution of talent and great core moving forward

first line

gaudreau - monahan - ferland

ferland is figuring it out, and brings a ton of toughness to our top line. gaudreau and monahan are going to stir the drink offensively for a long time. scoring pair.

second line

frolik - backlund - lazar

this gets the right hander lazar waaay more minutes and truly casts him in a defensive mould developmentally, something the team could really use long term. surrendering assets to acquire him means the club obviously feels like he has more to give and you don't get more out of lazar if you play him on your fourth line. frolik slides back to his natural left side and he and backlund continue to be our shut down pair.

third line

tkachuk - bennett - versteeg

we keep thinking of tkachuk as the beneficiary of playing on the 3M line, but he does a lot to drive play on his own. putting him with bennett gives you a duo moving forward that fits with the monahan gaudreau pair, bennett plays with a lot of grit and tkachuck will pull him into the 'fabric of the game.' versteeg has a ton of talent and even though he seems like he would be the softest player on this line, he is renowned for his #### talk. pest pair.

fourth line

stajan - jankowski - brouwer

i don't think it's presumptuous to pencil in jankowski at this point. not a big issue to slide stajan to the wing and gives jankowski a bit of a safety net. brouwer starts at the bottom and plays less minutes because he's earned them. but still has a great opportunity to cycle up to the backlund line if his play picks up.

Great video - thanks AC!

I really thought that the comments from coaches/management after the Doughty affair really neutered his season.

I am absolutely confident that it won't result in permanent damage, but until we actually see him fully back to form, we can't be certain.

If I'm not mistaken, that coincided with some time he was rumoured to be playing through an injury as well. I think that was likely the reason he tailed off toward the end of the season (in addition to having played a lot of hockey in the prior calendar year).

I really don't see much worry about the comments from coaches / management. We know Burke and Treliving in particular love the way he plays and I'm sure they'd have tempered any comments after that LA incident with making sure he's aware they want him to continue being a pain in the ***.

That...that was awesome. I liked Tkachuk before but seeing a compilation of his body of work as a mere rookie really puts things in to perspective. Exciting times ahead!
