I posted it on the other thread - Trade Brouwer for MAF plus prospect before the expansion draft. It will help the Pens relieve the goaltending situation

Wouldn't be against this, not sure it gets it done though. Would even consider a small add if it makes them consider retaining salary

I say swing for the fences and try and trade for Cory Schneider.
NJ is years away from contending and he's only going to lower their draft position while they miss the playoffs the next few years.

This would be a nightmare, people struggle to spell Elliott around here, imagine Grubaur, Graubauer, Grabower, Grabaeur.

I was firmly in the re-sign Elliott camp during the winning streak but after the two weak goals in Game 2 followed but the pathetic performance tonight I hope he never plays a minute for the Flames again.
I'm not sold on Bishop or Fleury as I worry about older goalies that could be the next Hiller or Elliott. Hopefully Treliving can pull off some magic and grab one of the young goalies facing exposure to expansion.

Scott Darling for me. I think he'd make a decent and affordable stopgap until Tyler Parsons is ready. That kid looks like the real deal. He's singlehandedly stealing games like we haven't seen since the Kiprusoff days.

Gillies is 23 and now healthy, most solid starters don't sit in the minors past 23 these days, due to his size, quickness and positional play I actually think he'll be better in the NHL than the AHL due to structure.
I say re-sign Johnson on the cheap and platoon him with Gillies and play the hell out of Parsons in Stockton. If by chance Gillies shows he can't handle the NHL (very doubtful) then we find someone around the the league as a stop gap.

What's the deal with Carolina for the expansion draft? Are they expected to protect both Ward and Lack or to let one of them go?
Either one of those guys could be good for the Flames for a year.
Edit: Nevermind my question. Just saw that only one goalie can be protected.

Actually, Scott Darling could be another good potential pick-up for the Flames. The expansion draft could be a real aid to the Flames in dealing with the goalie situation.

I think that Marc Andre Fleury makes the most sense for the Flames, he is a veteran who has won a cup, will be cheap to acquire, is on a reasonable contract right now, and is the best option on the market. Most teams have their goaltender situation sorted out for next year and the options for MAF are limited, so it is likely either Calgary, Vegas, or Vancouver and the best option in my view would be Calgary.

What? This will be his second year pro, but don't you want him to dominate the AHL, at least be a starting goaltender before you throw him to the wolves as being in a 1a/1b situation in Calgary with a career backup.
He is a good prospect but he is still just that, let him simmer in the minors, then bring him up slowly, first in the backup role to an experienced #1 and then eased into the starters role ala Frederik Andersen.
Rushing a goaltender with potential can do the exact opposite of what you hope for them to do.

We have to change our goalie coach before the goalies. Every goalie regresses under him. Been beating this drum for awhile.

I guess this needs to be re-posted:
Few goalies stick in the NHL without a lot of AHL seasoning first. Most have at least 100 games in the AHL under their belt.
Corey Crawford: 255 AHL games
Jake Allen: 172
Martin Jones: 158
Devan Dubnyk: 142
Cory Schneider: 136
Braden Holtby: 132
Cam Talbot: 116
Matt Murray: 72
Jonathan Quick: 71 (AHL + ECHL)
John Gibson: 70
Gillies: 46
It's premature to pencil in Gillies as an NHL backup next season.

Don't want Elliott back he is not consistent enough. Flames have some young talent that will improve but the best way to have a better season next year is have top end goaltending.

One possible hang up on any MAF trade is that I don't believe the Flames are on his list of preferred destinations so he may have to be convinced to come to Calgary. Not sure if he wants to stay out East or just doesn't want to play in Western Canada. He may not have a lot of options though because most of the teams in need of a starter are in the Western conference.
