Default Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2017 - Round 24

It's baaaaaaaaaaaaaack

Calgarypuck's 5th Annual Prospect Ranking Poll Series

Here are the last 5 years for a quick glance ...
Prospect Rankings
2013 - http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...ospect+Ranking
2014 - http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...highlight=poll

As per usual the vote is up to you. Some see it as most likely to play, some see it as highest ceiling, others see it as a mix of both.

Happy voting!

Who will join Sean Monahan, Johnny Gaudreau, Sam Bennett and Matthew Tkachuk as the top prospect. Previous four have gone straight to the show.

Gonna go with Hunter Smith here, just based on pedigree alone.

Voted Smith. Such an intriguing package of size, strength, skating and skill. He's still a bit of a project but I think there's some upside there.

Shocked at how many people are voting Lomberg. Seems like a fringe NHLer or 4th liner at best to me. Very low upside there and he has a much lower likelihood than Hathaway of achieving his low upside. Hathaway was dropped in this ranking due to low upside but Lomberg is not being similarly dropped as people vote him over players who have higher upsides.

I think we're past IDGAF territory. If someone from this deep steps up, it will be in a support role, and for a very limited period of time. Top 20 is probably as deep as you need to go. Anyone making the NHL full time this deep is a total fluke.

Yeah, but it's a fun time waster while we're waiting for the season to start

There is usually a big ledge after about 5 IMO. After that it gets flukey.

Every list we have made so far has a player from the 20s or 30s playing for the Flames that season.

2013 - Chad Billins(31) played 10 games
2014 - Josh Jooris(35) made the team out of camp, and stuck all season
2015 - Garnett Hathaway(23) played 14 games
2016 - David Rittich(31) played only one period

So, based on the previous lists it is very possible that one of these players left will play for the Flames this season. Who is it? I'll guess Lomberg even though I voted for someone else.

Fair enough. I like your reasoning and agree Lomberg may see some NHL fill in action. I don't like his chances of becoming a full time NHLer but he may be the best bet of the remaining choices to see at least 1 NHL game.

I've been voting Lomberg for a couple rounds; you're right that he likely peaks as a 4th liner, but he (like Hathaway) seems to have a high floor. He is a heart & soul player who was counted on in Stockton as a key player in all situations. He was the last cut in 2016. For a team that may need toughness, I could see him being a regular 12-14th forward which is more than I can say about Smith who primarily receives votes due to his draft position. In a re-draft I wonder if he would even get picked in round 7.

Here's to Healey reaching potential and "blowing up" Oilers n Nucks forwards for the next decade.

I have been looking up Sveningsson a bit, and he is my pick for now.

Great skater, gritty, and a lot of skill.

I think everyone has seen the 4 goals, 1 assist game he had (with that horribly boring announcer), so I won't add that here (it is on his draft selection thread if you haven't seen it).

He is #21:

Seems to be strong on the puck, fast, skilled and has a bit of grit to his game.

What is surprising is that there are some interesting picks left on the board. Still skilled/higher potential picks left, good size with hands types of players, 2 goalies left that are still legitimate prospects and decent defencemen as well. We are going into the long-shot territory, but quite honestly there is still a handful of players that wouldn't shock me if they were to make it one day down the road.

I keep reading in these comments that Hunter Smith is a good skater. It must be a different Hunter Smith than the one I've been watching.

Voted Mattson. I'm guessing he's not there because there isn't enough video of the kid. He's good, just a janko project. I will admit though that Svenningson looks interesting, he has some nice finishing touches in close to the net. I wonder what the hitch is on the kid. Why did he go seventh round? Because that video shows me a third rounder easily.
