I am floored we got anything for Kanzig. The defensive depth this team is stockpiling is almost hitting a staggering level. I do Think Lack will be just fine as a backup behind this current defensive group. Good moves.

Lack isn't a bad option and for what it's worth, this was a really good deal. I just dreamt of any trade involving Carolina would have included one of Bouma or Stajan and also included Gauthier from them...I really wanted the Flames to draft him.

Vey is similar. Treliving needed a warm body with experience to be able to call up from Stockton (where Vey has been pretty good). Shinkaruk has looked ok to me.
And Morrison? You mean Brendan Morrison who signed after a PTO and did very well?

I have no arguments with your facts, I'm just more on the side of "Vancouver? Really? Why must we keep acquiring players with that Canucks "stink" on them."

Starting to like this move the more I think on it. He kind of had a perfect storm of misfortunes in Carolina. Concussions, a goalie coach that had him playing against his strength, a coach that publicly blasted him, and despite that he still managed to show some flashes of his old self.
I know most of us aren't impressed with Sigelets record, I know im not, but sometimes a goalie and goalie coach need to mesh to really get anywhere. If Sigalet can get Lack playing to his strength again this could work out
There, that's my morning optimism for the day

Seems like one of those waiver fodder for waiver fodder deals you see during the regular season. Lack's still a legend to me!

The Hurricanes goalie coach is David Marcoux, didn't Kipper have some struggles when Marcoux was the goalie coach here?

GG on Fan 960 this morning says that Lack is a good goaltender, good in the room and in the community. Thinks he was just in the wrong situation in Carolina.

Isn't this more we wanted to move out a contract?

Far as I am concerned, if Tyler Wotherspoon is a prospect, so is this kid, 19 days younger. In fact their strengths and weaknesses seem to compliment each other... maybe that'd be a good third D pair.

The fact the Flames got anything for Kanzig is a win. His skating will never be NHL level.
I think Lack will be especially motivated in Calgary after his days in Vancouver.
Win/win in my book.

The best of Murphy's peers in the 2011 draft have 1, maybe 2 solid NHL seasons under their belt. Hamilton, Brodin, Larsson, Kelfbom. Many others in his draft are just starting to solidify full time spots: Manson, C. Murphy, Nesterov, Beaulieu. Ryan Murphy definitely has upside.
|
Just lock him in a room and make him watch tapes of how Ryan Ellis played over the last two seasons over and over.
They were very similar players with similar skill sets coming out of junior. Ellis really developed his game and learned how to play strong defense with his frame.
Murphy hasn't been able to do that yet.

Hes your Anders Eriksson. I'll never forgive that man.

He only played 3 games and a total of 39 minutes.
I thought they actually cut ties on that mistake pretty quickly.
Unlike the aforementioned Eriksson who we decided to run out for 61 regular season games, and then 3 playoff games that he cost us.

Agreed. "Undress" Eriksson is my most hated Flame to this day, just an awful, awful D man

"Quickly" is context relative. It was immensely obvious from the onset that he shouldn't have played more then 1 minute... meaning he played 3900% more then he should have.

I find it mildly interesting that in exchange for small, offensive Ryan Murphy the Canes wanted huge, aggressive Keegan Kanzig. Again, interested in both GMs thinking on the deal.

Great deal, I really liked Lack's game in Vancouver, hopefully he can regain some of that form.
I haven't followed Murphy, but the potential is certainly there.
