It's not that they got the first pick overall, it's a shame for the future of the player and the true greatness we could have witnessed in any other franchise. He will be bringing more than they can offer him based on their past experience with these calibre level of players.

This doesn't bother me at all.

Funny, I got a text from a friend of mine with the news and started to laugh.

The oilers could draft Superman and find a way to mess it up.

I actually think McDavid may change the Oilers management.

He's been a professional probably since he was 13. He doesn't want to be part of a cluster####. When he gets sick of it, and gets vocal, I can see him forcing changes. He may become bigger than the organization. At a minimum I see him driving trades to get rid of dead wood.

All the same, time for Calgary to stock up on some good open ice hitting defencemen.

Oilers have RNH, Hall, Eberle, Driasatl, Nurse, Nail and now McDavid...They absolutely WILL make a trade for a DMan in the offseason...As brain dead as that franchise is, even they aren't THAT dumb...

and if they are, they can just wait for the 2016 "Lottery" where they can get another top 5 pick...or maybe another Number 1...
Eberle, Yakupov, 2016 1st, Pitt 1st will be traded before anything else you listed there IMO

Penguins went 22-46-14 in Crosby's first year, and Sid had 102 points that year.

Another thing Sid had was Mario Lemeiux. McDavid will have Taylor Hall and Andrew Ference......

I have no idea what will happen... but the cap numbers say 3-4 guys in their prime years and 2-3 guys pre-apex... at most.

not sure how many top end forwards the O****rs can carry, but its not going to be more than 3-4. they still need 1-2 top end D and one top end Goalie.

Winning 4 number 1 picks in six year, plus a 3 plus a 6 compacts those contracts a lot... no way they can hold on to that many guys...

4 number one picks in 6 years has a way of getting to you...I guess you were expecting Calgary fans to be cheering on the Red Mile for Edmonton for winning another "Lottery"... laughable.

chiding people for being pissed off?

you're "better than that"....

The original Edmonton is No Good thread is how good we are at ragging on the tire fire up north.

And our "sour grapes" - this is nothing compared to the collective disappointment from EVERY OTHER TEAM IN THE LEAGUE seeing the worst run pro sports franchise in North America get more talent to ruin.

The worst possible outcome for today's lottery AINEC.

Did MacTavish suffer any major knocks to his big, helmet-less head while he was playing? That mess in Edmonton isn't anywhere near being fixed. McDavid isn't going to improve their win record.

Maybe they should pick up Vladdy Hockey instead...

Our biggest rival wins a generational talent when they've already had 3 straight first overall picks, what did you expect, for us to be planning a parade downtown? And it's not just us that feels this way. It's the entire NHL. It's a joke. Yeah we're sour, and not because it's Edmonton, because it's rewarding donkeys who have had way more than a fair chance to turn things around and fail time and time again, and you know what? I bet they fail again here too.

I guess Mac-T is currently at the Under 18s in Switzerland scouting their next 2 first overall picks.

The worst thing about this is the oilers with their 5 top3 picks may become serious contender possibly winning stanley cup while you just look at it with no top3 pick in the entire flames history.

Watching this unfold made my blood boil and I had just taken another dosage of my high blood pressure pills.

The worst run organization in professional sports should not be rewarded like this. I honestly hope they continue to miss the playoffs and if they make it, never seen another cup.

It's been reported that NHL executives are mad; let's hope they do something to prevent this from ever happening again.

I'd like to see CMD bolt the first chance he gets at UFA.

Who's their number one defenseman and starting goaltender? Sorry but as good as McDavid can be he's just one player in a true team sport.
#1 defenceman?

I thought the Oilers had 4-5 Giordanos.

On a more serious note, RNH has been consistently outplayed by Monahan in his rookie and sophomore years. Gaudreau is a stud and I would rather have him on my team than Taylor Hall.

Yakupov is a disaster.

Sam Bennett is looking to be a stud and thus neutralizes Draisaitl at worst.

McDavid???? Well there's the x-factor but our defense and goaltending trumps the Oilers.

Joni Ortio, Jon Gillies, Mason MacDonald.....

One player isn't going to turn the Oilers around...

Bob Hartley over any coach that Oilers can possibly sign other than Mike Babcock.

I am hoping he becomes a 2nd Paul Ranheim. That would be a good career, over 1000 games. If he can match Ranheim's career production, I think that would be a good result for all involved.

We got the best player in two straight drafts at 6 and 4, and the 139 lb elf we drafted in the 4th round looks like generational player.

They can have this one.
