Surely there are more pressing things to spend a billion dollars on. Especially $1b in taxpayer money. Because that is what it'll be in the end. Likely federal dollars too.

Are they going to remove that giant concrete pillar hanging over top of the stadium? That thing looks like a disaster waiting to happen.

I'm saying the UCP was on the ropes and needed a win in Calgary, so they spent our tax dollars on votes. It worked. Short memory?

Nope.

Was just curious if you thought the feds would step in and pay for our arena. Because we know there is a chance they will pay for the new roof in Quebec.

Same way the UCP bought votes with Calgarys arena.

Would a Liberal politician spend tax dollars in Quebec for votes? That's what you are wondering if I know?

Can't wait for it to sit empty 355 days a year. I love the Expos and I loved when I lived in Montreal but this is a bad idea.

I'm surprised you actually think the arena thing played much of a role in the election results.

It certainly didn't hurt them. Some districts were fairly close, like Calgary Bow and Calgary Northwest. Close enough some of those could have been decided on a single issue. And it's not just points gained from the deal, it's that if Notley had come out against it she definitely would have lost votes. It would have been an attack point. Do you think Smith would have handed out money like this in Calgary if it hadn't been the month of an election where she was down in the polls? Do you deny this was Smith attempting to buy votes with our tax dollars?

Anecdotally, the arena deal was massive in my social circles for wanting the UCP in. An absolute deal breaker for a few.

The amount of crap people in Arizona get while seeking a privately funded arena/development is unreal compared to the BILLIONS they're handing out in Canada.

Unreal.

Danielle sure made a big deal out of it- Press conference with Jyoti and all.
Essentially the message was, if you want a new arena, you better vote UCP

Unreal.
I’m surprised Arizona hasn’t built a publicly funded arena or stadium in the past 30 years or so.

But also, do you think that the funding of the Big O has gotten anything but crap since the 70s? Or other deals haven’t gotten a huge amount kf crap either?
