This. I don't understand the hate. I think I mentioned this movie in the guilty pleasure thread as well, and how I only consider it a "guilty pleasure" because I enjoyed the movie whereas apparently it's generally panned.

John Wick was stupid garbage. I just shudder when I see people talk about it being a good movie. It was just plain dumb.

Animated movies should be in contention for Best Picture Oscars. The fact that they have a separate category for them ends up putting them only in competition with each other, but there are quite a few animated films that are better than many of the BP nominees from their year. Give them the big prize if they deserve it.

Agreed. Animation tends to get unappreciated as an artform. You can find animated films with stories as good, if not better than a lot of live action movies.

True but then how would all the screen actors blow one another for 2 hours?

Monty Python movies, I've really tried to like them because it seems so many people find them hilarious. They're not funny at all.

I hated the Matrix. Fell asleep both times I tried to watch it. The wife, too. Usually when I sleep with the wife I at least get sex.
I have no interest in the Fight Club. I've never seen it and have no interest. I know I won't like it.
Adding a time-travel angle makes any movie much better. Exhibit A: The Final Countdown - totally awesome. It's way better than the 6.7 on IMDB. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080736/?ref_=fn_al_tt_4
Almost 99% of cartoon movies are trash.

Johnny Depp sucks.
LotR movies are unbelievably boring.
Anything by Quentin Tarantino is unwatchable.
Computer animated movies are unwatchable.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is the most overrated movie of all time.
American History X has two of the most powerful race-related scenes in all film (curb stomp/ending).
Interstellar is a massive Doctor Who ripoff - but still really good.

I would say the same thing about comedy, at least when it comes to best actor/actress categories. Comedy actors just tend not to get the respect they deserve.
I think good comedy is harder to pull off than it gets credit for. Very few "serious" actors can pull it off very well, yet quite often you see comedic actors branch out to play serious rolls and do quite well (Tom Hanks, Robin Williams, Jamie Foxx, Steve Martin, Jim Carey, Alan Arkin, Bill Murray, Robert Downey Jr. just to name a few, some also might say Jonah Hill and Will Ferrell). How many actors that specialize in dramatic rolls can branch out and be funny? I'm thinking Robert DeNiro, maybe Alec Baldwin ... who else? I don't think there are as many that can pull it off.

So true. I can stand show business award shows. Don't get me wrong, I like music and films, but they act like they are saving the world. I haven't watched one in years.

This appears to be the "crap on movies that other people like" thread. Seems people really struggle to identify movies they love and instead just trash whatever is popular with statements as unqualifiable as "it/they/he/she sucks".
For my contribution, Best in Show is the funniest movie of all time, and I don't see that ever changing. It's really good, and then Fred Willard steps in and the movie becomes legendary.

I contemplated putting this one down. I haven't seen it since I was a teenager and would like to see it again as an adult before making a judgement. It might have been over my head at the time.

I thought Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog was insipid, and probably only enjoyed by Joss Whedon fanboys or people who think it gives them some kind of nerd street creds.

I definitely love Die Hard: With A Vengence, but it's missing that Alan Rickman factor (I guess he's technically in it...). Every movie needs a villain that good., Jeremy Irons is good but not Hans Gruber good.
So with that in mind, Rickman as Hans Gruber is a better performance than Ledger as the Joker.
