I remember them trying this before. So how many shows before they split up? What's the over/under here? I am saying 4 shows.

I don't know, I was a huge fan of Van Halen and Van Hager.
But when Michael Anthony left the band the heart was ripped right out of it.

Van Halen is dead to me after the way they treated Sammy Hagar.

I remember one other time they did this, it must have been about 10 years ago. I heard DLR on the radio and the guy made no sense, like he had a concussion, or something.

They did this just a couple years ago and the people I know that happened to catch a show (before the rest of the tour was cancelled) said they were absolutely awful. Worst concert they'd ever been to bad...and one of those friends has been in radio as a host and music director for 20+ years and his life is going to shows. For him to say it was the worst concert he'd ever been to carries a lot of weight with me.
But they made a boatload of cash...

I went to their last show when they were here two years ago or so and Roth has completely lost it. He was talking lyrics throughout songs instead of singing them and it was awful. Most of the time you can forgive a bit because of age and whatnot but the show was unentertaining and extremely disappointing. Eddie was still on point though, guitar solo was very memorable.

I saw them play the Saddledome on that tour.
While they moved much slower, the band still ripped it up.
DLR, still had the pipes (then).

To lazy to look at ticketmaster - but how much are they looking to extract for the privilege of watching this carnival?
I am assuming prices are similar to Fleetwood mac

I regret not going to see the Police in Montreal back in 2007. I chose to do something else that day for some reason. Van Halen might have been something special a few years back but they haven't aged well.

VH with Dave >>>>>>>>>>>>>> VH without Dave.
They weren't even the same bands to me.

Michael Anthony's background vocals are sorely missed in Van Halen. It's just not the same without him.

A buddy of mine who is a huge music fan (and goes to a tonne of shows of all different types all over North America) says the same. He said without a doubt, the last VH tour with Roth was the worst show he has ever been to, and by a mile. He says at one point in the show Roth just started showing home movies of his dogs. I believe my friend even travelled some distance to see them... perhaps LA or Seattle.
When I told of this new reunion, he was shaking with anger... that's how bad he thinks their last tour was. I was stoked to read about this reunion, but after talking to my pal and as we share pretty similar tastes I am thinking I will take a pass on this one.

Did DLR ever come through these parts on a solo tour? Now that I'm thinking about it, this may have been without VH.

I saw DLR a long time ago (solo). It was still post-apex DLR though. Technically, he was good... but he looked like ####. Like an old man, balding with scraggly hair... and yes, spandex. It did kind of ruin the legend for me.
It was funny though because I was near the front with a girl friend (as in a friend that is a girl) and DLR looked right at her and did the tongue flapping thing. She turned around and looked at me with the most disgusted look on her face.

saw him solo in Richmond, VA in 2003, I think the ticket was $10. He was drunk by the end of the show, but it wasn't awful.
Worst show I ever saw was Van Hagar in 1991. Eddie was drunk, Alex was drunk, Sammy lost his voice 2 songs in. Luckily, Alice in Chains opened and was stellar so it wasn't a total loss.
I saw the reunited VH not the last time they were here (07/08?), but the time before that and the show was terrific.

but to be fair, Dave's always sounded a step removed from the rest of the world. If you've ever read his autobiography (Crazy From the Heat; great read) you'll see the tangents he goes on.
