Default FFWD Magazine Ends Tomorrow after 19 Years

http://www.ffwdweekly.com/calgaryblo...e-end-of-ffwd/

I was never really a reader but you always saw these in coffee shops, artsy stores, music stores, etc. in trendy neighborhoods. The arts/music scene is losing something today but something else could take that space or they could remain online. Calgary needs more culture.

The last issue is March 5th.

Wow, surprised to hear it. For most of my 20's I'd make sure to pick this up to see what was going on around the city. Add to that some decent articles and you had a pretty good city and culture mag.

It's 2015... As much as older people like to claim social networking is the devil, it's the perfect platform for finding things to do.

Not disagreeing, some huge advantages for sure, but for me there is just something to sitting down with something you can hold. For me, being on the internet gets very fragmented. Oooh, look at this, look at that, etc. I pay more attention to traditional media. I would wager most do actually. A lot of studies that show constant internet and device use is killing focus. Not sure if that's a bad thing, but it's a thing.

Plus I spend a lot of time on transit, so works well for me. Probably in the minority, but there ya go.

Didn't think I'd be an old man in my thirties.

Haha I wasn't calling you old specifically. Just the older generation that didn't grow up with Social Media as widespread as it is now.

I take Daradon's point - even as print media dies, all that means is that there's only room for fewer of these publications in a shrinking space. I would have thought FFWD, given its generally consistent quality, would be one of the few. Judging from that letter it sounds like there was no decline in readership. Very surprising.

If nothing else, at least the closing has given me an excuse to reach out and talk to John Tebbutt (The Video Vulture). Great guy, great articles.

Hope he starts a blog or something, really going to miss his stuff.
