Total eclipse of the hop and Devil's Elbow are my halloween beers, both from Howe Sound brewing. Both are IPAs, but pretty sure Total eclipse is a double IPA... Both are awesome

Total Eclipse is delicious... And it gets bonus points for having a great name.

I have been searching for Founders Breakfast Stout for the past two years with no luck. I can't even find Founders let alone their acclaimed Breakfast Stout. If anyone happens to stumble across this stuff please PM me or post its location here for all to see!

Coffee and oatmeal? Co-op by abominable had a breakfast stout. Not sure if it's the one you're looking for though.

I've had various breakfast stouts but have heard and read this one is on a level of it's own. I know its seasonal and released during fall/winter but have yet to find a store that deals the Founders brand. This is the one I'm referring to:

According to liquorconnect there's no where in Alberta that carries Founders.

St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout is available at some Crowfoot stores. Coffee, oatmeal and chocolate. It's on my personal list of beers to try.

Tried the Village Woodsman. Found it to be a bit bitter for my taste. I prefer the more balanced reds, maybe like a Smithwick, although I'm not a huge fan of reds as it is, so I'm not the best judge. If you tend more toward bitter, you may enjoy Woodsman.

Tried the Granville Lion's Winter Ale. Liked this one much more. Seasonal ale that's pretty easy to drink. Has a slight taste of mint, which was unusual and refreshing.

I love that one. Vertex is right up there too, in fact I might even give it a slight edge over Granville.

Went to the new co-op liquor store next to mid-town market and it is pretty good. I liked the quaintness of the old location, and don't like having to cross the street after groceries for the new place. However, what a great beer selection, best of all inner city co-ops I think.

They also have Maui Brewing Coconut Porter. Ya it is double the price it will cost you in Maui, but when I want to spoil myself with an amazing 6 pack I couldn't do better.

If y'all are into Porters, I highly, highly recommend Samuel SMith's Taddy Porter

I'm a big fan of Howe Sound beers and drink them on a regular basis. I pretty much like them all.

Thanks to your post, I bought a 4 pack after seeing this on my supermarket shelf today. I'll report back on how it was. I'll bring some back if your still looking next time I come (probably next summer though).

My dad brought me some of this from Vancouver Island last week. Very good.

I did have 2 of the best beers I've ever had in my life last week though. Don't pass these up if you are ever in these parts hanging out with beer nerds:

Reporting back after drinking the breakfast stout. I thought it was a solid beer. Very drinkable and pleasant but I wasn't really getting all the flavours promised. And it was almost a little thin, leaning towards the Porter side of the Porter/stout spectrum. There are a half dozen Virginia stouts I've had that I'd seek out ahead of the founders though.

Is hardywood trickery in Calgary anywhere? Liquorconnect isn't recognizing it.

Figured since I now have mine, it was safe to post in here.

First year not working away from home for half the month in about 5 years, so I'll finally be able to make use of one of these!
Forgot to THANK YOU! for this. Looking forward to it (couldn't justify $150, but hell yes for $90).

Also: looking for suggestions for winter ale. I usually drink Lion's. I also had Howe Sound winter on tap at Craft last year which was AMAZING, but wasn't as good from the bottle. May try that again though.

Just spent the weekend in Whitefish, Montana and visited Bonsai Brewing Project for the first time. They are making some great and unique brews. The very spicy ginger and habanero pale ale was a treat. I definitely recommend checking them out. As an added bonus the bartender/part owner(?) is a huge Flames fan and apparently makes the trek up for a game every year.

.
Brewery only release (I live in VA.). There are some very good beers on the eastern seaboard these days. Lots of good stops for a beercation I could recommend!

I appreciate the review and I will gladly take you up on your offer of bringing some up next time you are around!

I love the dark beers and so far my favorite Stouts/Porters I have tried are Oskar Blues Ten Fidy (4 pack of cans runs $22 at my local store in Red Deer, though), Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, Deschutes Black Butte Porter, and La Vache Folle Milk Stout.

Tonight I went with an IPA.

Devils Elbow is in my top 3 favourite beer. I always bring a bottle to the fishing (NO BOTTLES ON THE FISHING TRIP!!!) trip and bust it out one night around the fire. Something about that beer with the water droplets evaporating off the surface while the fire warms it to the perfect temperature out camping just relaxes the ever loving hell out of me. By the time I am done it, ready for bed.

Totally agree, Devils Elbow is my Go-To IPA.

Great beer.

So I cheated and drank the December 1 beer last night since I am busy today. It was a pumpkin ale, I quite enjoyed it.

edit: this was it https://avbc.com/our-beers/fall-hornin-pumpkin-ale/
