Wow, this is one of the first Kickstarters I've seen that is full of industry leaders endorsing it. I wonder how much of a headache this thing will give you but if it works, this is going make gaming with monitors obsolete for me for any first-person games (FPS, racing, etc.). The fully assembled prototype w/dev kit is only $300. That blows any 3D multi-monitor surround setup out of the water in terms of value.

I can't imagine it's that much better than existing models (that have been nowhere near the success that 3DVision has.

From what I have seen so far, it is blowing every other attempt out of the water.

I'm very excited for it.

Wow.

My only concerns are:

- it might be too heavy
- it might strain your eyes faster that you'd like.

Other than that, this is the future of games (i hope).
(And if by that time the PC gaming isn't dead, I hope it works with PC games and not just consoles, as I don't play console games)

Attempt? It's been done before. HMDs aren't new.

Occulus Rift has wider FOV, but lower resolution than some of the existing alternatives (Sony, Vuzix). I don't see that as revolutionary.

I didn't mean an attempt to build one. I mean an attempt to build a successful one.

Technology has come a long way.

I don't mean it will 100% definitely be successful but it looks very promising so far and is getting a lot of support.

Not excited for anything you need to wear on your face, and I don't think the average consumer or gamer will be either. You'll be in full on nerd territory for that. Which, there could be a market for, but it won't really change things in a larger sense, cause I don't see it catching on market wider than that.

If the experience provided is powerful enough, no one will care about having to wear it on their head.

I spoke to someone yesterday who tried it (i work for Ubisoft), he said it's ####ing amazing.

Wearing it on your head shouldn't be a big deal. Honestly, most ppl look like clowns with headsets on while they game away anyway, myself included. Throwing that thing on, at least you won't have to see the looks you're getting from the other ppl in the house ha ha.

I'm curious whether people who experience a little nausea while playing FPS's and just looking at a monitor will be full out puking in their own laps.

I wonder if they will bundle in additional "hardware"

I posted this in the Funny/Cool Pictures thread, but worth posting here. A prototype 360 degree "treadmill" coupled with the Oculus Rift. I think it's a great pairing. Check the video in the link:

Any idea of ball park pricing for the 1080p version? Eh, who am I kidding - it doesn't matter; still gonna get it.
