Default Home Phone Line

So, I have been keeping my home phone number going for several years now mostly out of convenience.
I am moving though and Telus won't let me keep the same phone number. This seems like a good enough reason to finally get off my butt and setup something new.

We mostly use the home phone to call family or when I have to sit on hold with some company and don't want to waste cell time/battery life.

We pay $25 a month right now for the phone, caller ID and voice mail.

I would like to keep my existing number if possible, but it isn't the end of the world if I can't.

I like having a physical cordless phone that rings in the house.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Try Magic Jack. http://magicjackcanada.com/shop/

I bought one at Best Buy a few weeks ago. It's $10/year for a "403" number and that includes caller ID and voicemail. It's unreal. I haven't had anybody complain about the call quality yet and it sounds perfect on my end. I use my same cordless phones throughout the house that I used to use with my Telus landline.

I don't know if you can keep your existing number.

You may want to consider racknine.com as I believe they are setting up options for a residential VOIP service.

I use Racknine for my commercial VOIP and they are outstanding. Highly recommended.

Thanks,
I have worked with Matt at Racknine in the past. I didn't realize they were getting into home VOIP.

I know a couple people happy with ooma. I am still waffling but it looks pretty cool.
