Mulcair was effective standing up to Harper in parliament, but they switched gears for the campaign. They should have played to his strengths instead of trying to stay above the fray and hold onto their early lead. They also seriously underestimated Trudeau.

The Liberals have generally ran a more positive campaign which I think has worked in their favour. People are sick of doom and gloom.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

It was laughable when he was appointed Science and Technology minister due to the fact he is a evangelical creationist and even funnier that the CPC thinks he is a good choice to put in this debate.

Is this the truth? Harper appointed a creationist to minister of Science? And this person is running again? What the actual frack?

There's few groups of people I loathe more than creationists. They're the dumb people you could hit them in the face with a brick and say "this is a brick", and they'll argue with you until the end of days that it is not a brick. Ugh. If I were considering voting PC at all during this election, that would have immediately swung my vote elsewhere.

It's pretty funny too when you think about it in comparison with the other participants.

Does anyone know that backstory on this? Because at first glance, it looks shady as hell.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/harp...case-1.3257994

Quote:
The Harper government forged a partnership with a major Canadian accounting association, formalizing it as an adviser to the Canada Revenue Agency, at the same time as the group was fighting the CRA in court to shield the files of multimillionaires who had stashed money offshore.

CPA Canada represents and lobbies on behalf of most accounting firms in Canada, including KPMG, which the government was pursuing in court at the time to obtain a list of wealthy clients enrolled in an offshore tax scheme in the Isle of Man.

Three months before the government announced the partnership, Prime Minister Stephen Harper himself met with CPA Canada and the heads of KPMG and other major accounting firms. The exceptional visit on Aug. 13, 2014, to the industry association's headquarters in Toronto was recorded in the federal lobbying registry.

In addition to CPA Canada's intervention in the KPMG case, the association has also been campaigning for limits on what accounting firms have to provide to tax authorities when clients are being audited and investigated. The campaign has included lobbying Ottawa bureaucrats, politicians and their staff on related topics for several years, a review of lobby registry records shows.

A Liberal candidate is accusing a Conservative MP of lying about her views in a pamphlet in which he attacks a former political foe with the same first name.

Parm Gill, the Tory incumbent in the hotly contested Greater Toronto Area riding of Brampton North, sent a letter to constituents — at taxpayers’ expense — in July slamming his opponent “Ruby” for championing an expensive policy that neither the Liberal party nor the current Liberal challenger supports.

...

Gill is facing off against Liberal candidate Ruby Sahota. But the Ruby who championed that policy was the former Liberal MP, Ruby Dhalla. Dhalla introduced a bill, C-428, in 2009 that sought to reduce eligibility requirement for monthly Old Age Security pensions. The bill was not supported by the Liberals — their pension critic opposed it at the time — and it was never moved or studied.

Anyone else remember Davinder Shory?

As he had previously done for past provincial elections, Nenshi sent the same set of questions (about Canadian cities in general and Calgary in specific) to each of the four federal parties and gave them two weeks to respond. Each party's unedited answers were posted to http://www.citiesmatter.ca/ today.

Here are the questions:

Question: What are your party’s plans to fund public transit in Canada and in Calgary?
Question: Should your party form government, will you honour the Federal Government’s commitment of July 24, 2015 to fund The City of Calgary’s Green Line LRT project?
Question: How does your party propose to fund the municipal infrastructure gap?
Question: What policy changes will your party implement to increase the supply of affordable housing for all Canadians?
Question: Does your party support providing increased and sustained federal investment to increase the supply of new affordable housing and replace aging social housing assets?
Question: Does your party support amending the Income Tax Act to eliminate the capital gains tax on donations of real property to registered public charities for the purpose of providing perpetually affordable housing?
Question: Will your party support the FCM’s call for innovative tax incentives like the Rental Housing Protection Tax Credit to preserve existing rental units and promote construction of new rental units?
Question: What is your party’s position on the ‘improved’ Urban Aboriginal Strategy adopted in April 2014?
Question: What policies will your party propose to support urban Aboriginals and help urban Aboriginals participate in the shared prosperity of our community?
Question: How will your party foster reconciliation and healing with our Aboriginal population and how will you foster greater understanding and cooperation between our Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal populations?
Question: Do you support an inquiry into missing and murdered Aboriginal women?
Question: What plans do you have to combat poverty in Canada?
Question: How would your party’s anti-poverty policies support The City of Calgary’s poverty reduction initiatives?
Question: How will your party support settlement services in Calgary?
Question: How will you make it easier for new Canadians to certify their academic and professional credentials and integrate quickly into our labour force and economy?
Question: What are your Party’s views on the Federal Government’s changes in 2014 and 2015 to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (“TFWP”)? Should the TFWP be revamped to provide a more effective way to permanent residency and citizenship?
Question: What should Canada’s response be to the Syrian refugee crisis?
Question: How will your party’s agenda support community policing and crime prevention in Calgary?
Question: What is your party’s position on medical marijuana? Should your party form government what direction will you give municipalities on the contentious issues of medical marijuana dispensaries?
Question: Working within the existing CPS Crime Prevention and Reduction Continuum and Canada’s National Counter-Terrorism Strategy, CPS has developed the ReDirect Strategy to prevent youth radicalization by engaging youth-at-risk in early intervention. What measures will your party take to prevent youth radicalization?
Question: Calgary has relied heavily on the Federal Disaster Assistance Initiative to repair and rebuild needed infrastructure after the flood; however, in February 2015, the Federal Government changed the funding formula. What is your position on the changes to the Disaster Assistance Initiative formula?
Question: Will your party help fund large and small flood mitigation projects in and around Calgary?
Question: How will your party improve rail safety in Canada?
Question: How will your party’s economic policies keep Calgarians working?
Question: What are your party’s policies regarding the energy sector? Do you support the construction of pipelines to connect Alberta’s oil and gas to markets in other parts of Canada and for export overseas?
Question: Does your party support the development and adoption of a National Transportation Strategy?
Question: How will you diversify Calgary and Alberta’s economy?
Question: Good decisions are based on good data. What is your party’s position on the long-form census?

You can read the responses at the above link.

Spoiler re: the answers from the Conservatives:

That is the exact opposite of what CPC and Harper believe in (and do).

So the NDP and Libs should have an early lead?

By +42k, do you mean 42,000 additional students have already voted compared to the number who voted in advanced polls during the last election? Did whoever posted that on Facebook link a source?

Answering my own question courtesy your link: a total of 42,000 students have voted so far.

Just saw this linked on Facebook. I voted for Kent twice previously in provincial elections; I'm thrilled to live in his riding so I now have the opportunity to vote for him a third time.

This is such a weird election. Two leading candidates; one's an untested fresh face that really may do anything if elected with very little to go on in terms of concrete answers, the other is a lying conman that also has no concrete answers but has so little respect for people he can't even be bothered to fake charisma.

Vote for the known evil or the unknown... what a ridiculous election.

He's backed up almost all his spending promises in the platform they released. He's the only one giving concrete answers (or atleast as close as you get in politics)
