3rd round picks aren't exactly valuable. Saving a couple million in cap space trumps a 3rd round pick all day, every day

Yet you argued to me that a 2nd round pick to get Brouwer's $4.5M off the books is beyond stupid.

The 3rd rounder for Elliott is next year. We traded our 2017 3rd for Stone.

I agree though not worth keeping him and there is a huge portion of the fanbase that would be upset if we come back with Elliott in net as anything more than a backup

Completely agree. If the coach had any amount of faith left in Brian Elliott, he wouldn't have been pulled after 1 goal, in the most important game of our season.

Going on 500 votes...

29% - Bishop
18% - Fleury
8% - Darling
8% - Grubauer
6% - Elliott
4% - Mrazek

If I could re-vote, I think I'd choose Darling over Grubauer. I completely forgot that Darling was UFA.

You pay for what you get, so I expect Bishop to be in the 6 mill range. I'm ok with 4 years of Bishop. 5-6 years though might be too tough to swallow.

His price is likely moving up as well.

He makes a lot of sense for the Flames for a couple of reasons.
May be wiser to trade for Raanta or Grubauer and bring Elliott back instead.

Elliott was moving up my list pretty fast a couple months ago.

I wanted him signed ASAP because his price tag was rising with every game.

When MAF is on he's amazing, but he's sewered more than one playoff run for the Pens.

Keep in mind the market for Fleury will be limited and they are forced to move him quick.

It makes me wonder if he can win the Cup for the Pens would they consider moving Murray? Flames could offer Gillies and the 16/17th pick (whichever they end up with) and maybe something else? Murray obviously fits the age group of the core and the Flames still would have Parsons. The Pens would add a similar aged goalie as Murray that is expansion exempt a mid first in this draft (they have traded their last 4 1st rounders) and maybe something else?

So wait...not sure if I am reading this right...you are saying the Pens trade Murray (why? because Fleury wins a cup this year? Murray won one last year) for Gillies and Calgary's first.

That's a horrible trade for the Pens.

Are the Flames on Fleury's 18 team trade list?

If I'm Fleury, I put all the teams who need goaltending on my 12 team no-trade list so the Pens buy me out, then I sign a nice 3-4m contract with whoever I want and get paid 9m over the next two years.

It's the smart money play, even if you end up having to take less than that.

IMO there is a significant difference between a 2nd and third rounder. I also argued that it sends a bad message to other free agents. You know, the point you agreed with.

His price (in trade) will bottom out after the playoffs, the Penguins want to keep Murray and will have to expose him unless they find a taker for Fleury or buy him out.

Anyone that is thinking we should trade for another teams sloppy seconds unproven backup goalie needs a reality check. We need to stop taking the path with the least amount of risk. We do not need another Ramo, Hiller or Elliot situation next year.

Ben Bishop will cost us nothing in the way of assets. Ben Bishop is very similar both physically and in play style to Gillies and would be the ideal goalie for Gillies to learn from. Lastly so long as we can keep the goalie position to 8M between starter and backup we should be ok in terms of the salary cap going forward.

Legit #1 goalies are proving more and more they do not drop off in terms of their level of play until they are in that 36-40 age bracket. Signing Bishop for 6 years would carry very little risk. He's a bonafide #1.

Heck Kipper's numbers weren't anything special yet people defend him as our Goalie Mesiah.

It's Bishop/Gillies as anything else is an utter waste of this teams development and window to win.

Yes I did agree the optics could be bad but on the flip side Brouwer didn't live up to his side of the deal. Based on your replies to me I thought you took offense to spending assets to acquire cap space
