Suggest an SUV (fine, a minivan) for me
So Mrs Resurrection and myself are expecting another baby in December, and she's politely informed me that we will be buying a minivan or an SUV. So, help me buy an SUV!
My criteria to narrow it down for suggestions:
- Has to have 7 seats
- The 3rd row has to be stowable
- No more than 30k-ish new
- That's it
Thanks for any suggestions... I know nothing about SUVs.

Minivans actually have space, SUVs give the illusion of space unless you by one of the gigantic ones. The U stands for useless.
Why not a wagon?
EDIT: Nevermind, didn't read the criteria, get a minivan!

2 kids plus all their stuff and groceries or anything else?
Things like the Highlander, MDX, Forester might be a tight fit. You may have to look at going up to the full size SUV's?

I think that at $30K you can get into a Hyundai Sante Fe XL. That is probably the best bet. You can try to find a base model Ford Flex. Does Dodge still make the Journey? Maybe a Ford Transit Connect, or whatever the minivan is called, if you want something different and smallersmaller.

That price point is pretty tight, dependent on the bells and whistles you want.
This is an older article, but might be a good starting point for you.

It might be useful to look at slightly used vehicles. As I get older, I am becoming more and more a fan of buying used.
Also, resist the van.

Sub 30k, you are looking at a minivan.
I've been trying to get my wife on board with her getting a minivan for about 6 months now. She is adamantly against it. Instead she has grand plans to buy a pricey SUV (4Runner I think?).

For that price range go for the minivan. I loved it but it wasn't my primary vehicle. My wife drove it for 6 years and said "never again". Once the kids get a little
older you can upgrade to a SUV. Sliding doors and stowable seats will be your best friend. Get the DVD player set up for sure.

Yeah I know, just trying to wagon vicariously through someone else.

I have 2 kids under 3 and we have a Toyota Highlander.
Awesome vehicle. It would fit your criteria with the 3rd row, and 7 seats. You can get a used one a few years old for under $30K.
However, the 3rd row seating is useless.
Since the 2nd row doesn't fold flat, you have to climb over the 2nd row to get back there. With 2 car seats, its pretty much impossible. Well, unless you want to take the car seats out, flip it down, climb over into the back, then re-install everything.
When you have the 3rd row up, there is virtually no trunk. I'm not sure our stroller would even fit to be honest.
I think most 3-row SUV's would be like this.
I see a mini-van in my future.
