Exactly.
Which would traditionally be indicated by the family through showing tangible signs of wealth. There is the idea that females need to be looked after and supported and in order to convince a male from another family to take on that burden, he needs to know that she is coming from wealth (which is considered divine by some people).
It might not even be a conscious thing, but it doesn't need to be, to become culturally ingrained. Similar to how in Western culture, Sunday is still often looked at as a family day or day of rest. The religious connotations may not permeate like they used to, but it is culturally ingrained.
