Tre mentioned when hired Burke was a massive reason why he took the job. What better opportunity is there? He has built this team as only Matt Stajan is the only contract he didn't sign now that Wideman is gone. Only reason he would leave imo is money and feeling like he is not being compensated well enough

It would seem that Treliving's top priority is to remain in Calgary.

I imagine after 3 years, which has basically seen a complete overhaul of the roster, the prospect pool, the coaching staff and many scouts throughout the organization, that Tre is probably very emotionally invested in seeing this thing through.

It's not like there's a bunch of GM openings at the moment. He would have to be pretty confident that he could land the Buffalo job or he would have to look for an AGM job somewhere or scout and then have his name in the hat with other aspiring or former GM's looking for a GM gig and there's no guarantee he's a GM again for years if ever. As long as the Flames don't low ball him or offer him less than a 3 year term I don't see why he wouldn't remain with the Flames.

Has there been any news recently? This is one thing the Flames NEED to get dealt with before the expansion draft in my mind.

I think Friedman said on the Fan this morning (I missed the first part) that he hadn't heard anything at all this week.

John Shannon was also just on the Fan, and didn't sound too positive. Worth noting, Shannon usually not a great source for anything really.

John Shannon tends to talk a great deal without knowing much of anything. I would expect him ton stoke anxieties in the absence of any information.

This whole situation is just so strange. Going into such an important off season, you'd think you'd want to have your General Manager locked in and ready to go. But of course, the Flames have to do things their unique and confusing way.

It was really an odd interview as they were talking about Ottawa getting a new arena and discussed the Flames situation where he gave his opinion which I have to imagine is not well informed. It's one thing when Friedman says something because we have reason to believe he's somewhat plugged in but Shannon is IMO more of a sounding board of rumors and talk that's already out there.

For sure. I usually subscribe to a "no news is good news" philosophy, but in this case when so many usually connected people are out of the loop its concerning.

I simply can't see the Flames screwing this up. Treliving should get a 4 year deal with a team option for a 5th year. He has built the team and signed the core he should be given more time to see it through.

I heard/read somewhere that they weren't even meeting until today, so I'm not overly concerned about the lack of news.
