2015-16 Raptors and General NBA Thread
Figured we should just have one overall basketball thread that focuses on the Raps but for discussion on all NBA things.
Raptors started their offseason by signing DeMarre Carroll to a 4 year $60 million deal. Very good defender and decent offensive player.
Anthony Davis now the highest paid player in the league, 5 years $145 million. Kevin Love resigns in Cleveland for 5 years and $105 million which is a really good deal considering the cap is going up.
But the Spurs may be the big free agency winners as they have re-signed Kawhi to a 5 year $90 million deal, Danny Green to good deal for 4 years $45 million and trading Splitter to Atlanta to clear the space to sign Aldridge. A starting 5 of Parker, Green, Leonard, Aldridge and Duncan...wow.

Amir signs in Boston. 2 Years, $24M. Good guy, bad ankles. Thank goodness the Raps let him go.

I thought the biggest news of the day was Love, Shumpert, and probably Thompson are resigning in Cleveland.

Raptors still haven't renounced the rights to Lou Williams which frees up cap space. I'd be a little surprised if they kept him. They are also going after Wesley Matthews who would be a decent pickup if Lou is gone.

I'm getting worried that the Raptors don't seem to have an option for PF... most of the decent FAs are gone now, except vets like West. They may need to address it through trade... they've got four first rounders over the next couple years, some trade exceptions (Vasquez at $6 million is the largest), and a couple depth wing players to move. That should be enough to get a decent young PF. I'd be interested if the Bucks are willing to move Henson now that they've got Monroe.
I can't believe Tristan Thompson is getting $80 million. Granted it seems to be a bit of a bonus for Lebron's agent, but those are crazy numbers for a guy who's going to be a backup PF most of next year.
edit: not sure why I was thinking that Diaw was a free agent this year...

Market is totally out of whack right now because of the cap increase next year. I mean Aron Baynes, San Antonio's 3rd string center last year, got $20 million over 3 years. Raps are gonna have to comb trades to find value. Henson would be a good pickup. Raps seem to be pushing more for Wesley Matthews than PF though.

I really don't like the Matthews idea unless DeRozen is getting traded for a PF after.
Casey apparently wants a small lineup of Lowry-Matthews-Demar-Carroll-JV. Not a fan of it at all. Get a proper big man and let Carroll play the 3 spot.

I haven't seen much to suggest he can coach a 1, 2, or 3 either.

Matthews high risk, high reward signing for the Mavs.

DeAndre Jordan apparently leaving the Clippers for the Mavs. Clippers just saw their championship window slam shut, no doubt they'll be ruing that huge choke against the Rockets.
Raps in a holding pattern right now with the Aldridge situation dragging out. Once he signs a lot of dominoes with other signings and trades figures to fall.

Harris, Matthews, Parsons, Dirk, Jordan is a good starting 5. They need to fill out the rest of the roster though.

Aldridge has signed with the Spurs, giving them one of the scariest starting fives in recent history. 70 wins would be possible if Pop weren't the coach since he'll do what he does best and manage minutes.

At first I was thinking, "why Biyombo"? After looking at his numbers last season, I can't complain about the price they paid for him as a backup C. Actually a very nice price signing for the numbers he's put up.

If this roster is this:
KL / DW
DD / TR
DC / JJ
?? / PP
JV / BB
Depending on who you get to play starting PF, that's pretty solid. And then Bruno, Bebe, Daniels, and Powell getting spot duty and d-league minutes. I actually like that bench unit a lot, and their ability to come in and make an impact in a lot of different ways. But if the plan is to start PP, or slide DC up to PF in a small-ball starting unit, I'm less impressed.

Spurs have to be the favorites after getting LA. They are old though but Pop will keep them fresh by playing them 20 a night and still win.

^^I think getting a PF might be part of a sign and trade involving Lou Wiliams. Miami is reportedly interested but they really have no one at PF worth trading for. With Nene in the final year of his contract and him being available, maybe trading Lou to Washington is possible as well as they need someone to replace Paul Pierce. Nene obviously not a long term solution but for one year that offers more cap flexibility next summer, I think it's a decent option.
