I would agree that is the group. I would go Poirier, deblouw, kylington, bailie.

Are these in order? I'm surprised to see Poirier so far down the list with his pedigree and experience.

They're in order for me. I found that a lot of the more experienced guys had a bit of a "been there, done that" demeanour. They worked hard, but not as hard as a few kids trying hard to get noticed.

For those of you that were there, what was most notable about Hawkins?

I appreciated the updates, but I take everything I hear from prospect camps with a grain of salt. It's very subjective and their is no way you can realistically watch everyone and come up with an in-depth analysis from watching one practice.

He just turned 18 six weeks ago. He is the 2nd youngest player in the Flames' system, behind only Bruce, who turns 18 next week.

I like that Deblouw is impressing. He's kind of the forgotten prospect. Good to see him making the most of this.

Well Deblouw was like our 38th out of 38 prospect picks last year or something, so maybe he's the next Jooris lol

Elson or Hathaway are the 2016 or 2017 Jooris.
DeBlouw is the 2018 Jooris.

Every year we'll get a Jooris

Day 1 thoughts...

Lots of skill on display today and its a good thing I have a proven track record of spotting eventual NHLers (this is a lie) so I can easily point out who will make the show...

Jankowski - Happy to see Janko for the first time. Silky smooth. Reminds me of Colborne. How does he not rack up crazy numbers?

Klimchuk - Nothing flashy. This is how you accept a pass at full speed. This is how you create a rebound.

Hickey - Stood out. Did everything really well today. Looks thin but didn't get outmuscled in any of the drills and put on a clinic in protecting the puck.

mangy-pangy - As advertised - Small, feisty and quick.

Kyllington - Skills were on display. Could tell this was day 1 for him because he needed some extra guidance on what to do in certain drills. I frequently tried to watch him and then Morrison on the same drill as a sort of comparison and I was very impressed. Best skater on the ice in my opinion (including skating backwards). Honestly, I thought he looked like a highly-skilled first round draft pick but as a forward.

Everything i've read about him tells me he should stand out in drills, but come game time his positioning and decision making is suspect. I'll be watching for that during scrimmages.

Agreed Morrison looked the best in group B.

Tyson Baille however....i'm not sure who the rest of you were watching but all I saw was a small guy who wasn't nearly fast enough and struggled in almost every drill. I honestly kept thinking "ya, you're cut. Nice try though!". No question that he worked his butt off but I can't believe he would be in the top-5 today and I have a sharp eye for NHL talent (again, a big lie).

Fast fast fast. Plus he has a decent shot and he showed some accuracy.

By the way, Mangiapane is pronounced Mun-Ja-Pawn for those that are confused.

Read a Darren Haynes article yesterday and he had the pronunciation as MON-gee-ah-PAWN-nee

Here's my breakdown of each group

A

Sieloff - He has a really good shot, but is very average outside of that. Not much different than Ramage except his shot.

Klimchuk - Very linear player that does what needs doing. Very accurate shot, picked many corners. His shot will make him a 15+ goal scorer in the NHL.

Andersson - Not very noticeable at either end of the ice. Not surprising because it's his first camp.

Carroll - He will be an NHL player at some point. Good depth mucker with skill. Think Ferland.

Hathaway - I don't recall seeing him.

Mattsson - He didn't stand out much, which is neither good or bad.

Toth - Walk On Goalie. He was okay.

Smith - He's bigger than this time last year. Still could get slightly faster, but he's right on track.

Kanzig - The most improved player from last year. His foot speed has improved and looks competent and composed defensively.

Jankowski - By far the best player today. Hands are as quick as his mind and he uses both effectively to give the defense and goalies fits. He is fast on his feet as well. Nice to see. Can't wait to see him in a Flames jersey.

Marcotte - Looked skilled, but didn't stand out as being particularly special.

Karnaukhov - See Marcotte.

Bruce - He's strong, but needs a lot of work like Kanzig did when he was picked.

That's basically what I wrote other than the O and U in Man, It sounds more like Mun when speaking Italian. There is no -nee either. There's more of an emphasis on the Pa in "pawn", but you also linger a bit on the N sound instead of a straight pan sound. There is no e at the end.

I speak a bit of Italian and I got the exact pronunciation from my father, for which Italian is his first language.

In English, it means eat bread.

Takeaway from today: If Brandon Hickey makes the Flames one day, he'll be a fan favourite. Personable and always smiling -- even on the ice.

Group B

Gillies - Steady as always. Is a bit quicker on his feet and laterally than before.
Poirier - Was traded for Nakladal and played in the afternoon. Fast as always but was missing a lot of his shots.
Soustal - Did not notice outside that one awesome play.
Bennett - He did not have a great day. Not a big deal.
Hickey - He's going to be an awesome player some day. Learned a lot from Eichel and Oksanen in BU in how to approach things off the ice, and it's paying dividends on it. Stellar play.
Fram - I did not notice him much
Mangiapane - He's a skilled player. Reminds me a bit of Agostino, although not as polished, which is to be expected.
Jutzi - Did not stand out
Proulx - Did stand out as being a terrible skater with a poor shot. Linden Penner territory of bad from a couple years ago.
Myers - He is big and fast. A good combination for a D-man. Need to see more.
